Fall is here, and with it comes cozy sweaters, tasty apples and apple cider, fun seasonal activities, and, of course, lots and lots of leaves. With all those leaves scattered across your yard, you might be tempted to grab a rake. But before you do, consider this: Leaving the leaves alone might be the best option for wildlife, the environment, and your yard. If you don’t like to rake—and even if you do—please read on. https://lnkd.in/gVw-Kq6A #AnimalSafety #AnimalWelfare #YardCare #LawnCare #Lawn #Fall #FallSeason #AutumnActivities #Wildlife

Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.
About us
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally, and PETA U.S. is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. PETA Foundation was founded in 1993 as an organization that helps PETA run, and includes departments like IT, Development, and Interactive Media. PETA and the PETA Foundation are two separate organizations but work very closely together. Looking for a career in animal rights? See our open positions here: http://www.peta.org/jobs.

Noodle’s previous owners weren’t exactly using their noodles when they acquired her as a piglet, intending to raise her for slaughter. Pigs need time and space to grow, and the wannabe farmers quickly realized they were in over their heads, with no capacity to care for her in the meantime. They tried keeping her in their house, but as she got bigger and began rooting around—one of pigs’ preferred pastimes—they put her outside in a tiny pen with nothing but trash and concrete blocks. Fortunately, rather than simply selling this smart, sensitive individual to someone else who would eventually kill and eat her, Noodle’s overwhelmed owners called PETA for help. After our fieldworkers spoke to them about how big she would get—and reminded them that pigs are friends, not food—they agreed to give her up for a chance at a home where she’d never be in danger of becoming dinner. https://lnkd.in/gk2KE-ad #adoption #adoptdontshop #animalcruelty #animalsafety #animalwelfare #pig #pigs #compassion #animalsusedforfood #victory #piglets

In a sickening display of apparent cruel indifference, a University of Washington experimenter went off script on an experiment, nearly irradiating a monkey to death. PETA now calls on school brass to sack her immediately. Fritzie Arce-McShane, an experimenter in the UW School of Dentistry’s Department of Oral Health Sciences, irradiated an adult male macaque on three consecutive days each week for more than a month between mid-May and late June, ignoring stipulations that there should be a 48-hour recovery period between radiation exposures. The radiation caused severe radiation toxicity, including discharge from the monkey’s eyes and nose, swelling of his face, eyelids, and lips, red, flaky skin, and loss of appetite. He was unable to fully open his mouth for several weeks. This is only the latest atrocity to take place at the UW’s Washington National Primate Research Center, which has a lengthy, years long rap sheet spanning the gamut of animal torment. Please TAKE ACTION to help shut down the Washington National Primate Research Center. https://lnkd.in/efxz4SQd #Cruelty #TakeAction #AnimalCruelty #AnimalRights #AnimalsAreNotOurs2Use #PETA

When a video of an individual beating, choking, and electroshocking a terrified dog in Louisiana went viral on social media, furious users flooded the comments sections to demand justice for the canine. Now, that day has come with the arrest of a 15-year-old boy and two other Ponchatoula-area teens on charges of animal cruelty. The dog has been removed from the suspect’s custody and placed in a new home, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. TeachKind—PETA’s humane education division—has stepped in and is committed to helping Ponchatoula prevent young people from abusing animals in the future. The rash of violence toward animals in North America will continue to grow if these incidents of abuse are forgotten. To help make the world safer for humans and other animals, TeachKind diligently tracks cases in which young people torment or kill animals. Not every student receives lessons in kindness and compassion at home, which is why it’s up to schools to fill in those gaps. TeachKind is here to help teachers and school administrators do just that. If you’re an educator or know someone who is, visit TeachKind.org to download free humane education materials. https://lnkd.in/eDFD9mpk #cruelty #AnimalCruelty #abuse #violence #SocialMedia #teach #humane #education #HumaneEducation #TeachKind #compassion #students

Every single piece of leather—whether it’s used to make a coat, pants, or shoes—comes from an animal who died kicking and screaming on a slaughterhouse floor. Animals used for leather endure joyless, painful lives in cramped, filthy conditions, ending in a violent death—often while still conscious and in full view of other animals. All for human vanity. The leather industry subjects over a billion sensitive animals each year to horrific cruelty. They need their skin to live, they feel pain, and their lives are stolen from them—and for what? So brands like ASOS, Aritzia, Fossil, and Mixology Clothing Company can make a profit, even though they already sell faux leather and know how popular it is. Cows are amazing animals—they can recognize over 100 other cows, and they grieve when their friends or family members die. But most importantly, they can feel fear, stress, and pain. It’s unacceptable to abuse and kill them for any reason, including for clothing. Tell companies to choose empathy—not cruelty and environmental devastation—by selling only vegan leather! https://lnkd.in/eBaQ-2n4 #leather #cruel #abuse #animals #LeatherFree #WearYourOwnSkin #VeganFashion #AnimalRights #ChooseEmpathy #VeganLeather #NotOurs2Use #AnimalLiberation #TakeAction

In a major victory for cows, Starbucks announced that it will stop charging extra for vegan milks, effective November 7! The move follows a vigorous four year campaign, letters from more than 160,000 PETA supporters, protests at Starbucks around the country, and help from actor James Cromwell who glued his hand to a café counter in protest and starred in a satirical video calling out the upcharge, as well as an appeal from Sir Paul McCartney. What does a surcharge-free Starbucks mean for animals—and the planet? Starbucks is a top user of cow’s milk and prioritizes it above all other types of milk. Cow’s milk is a product of the dirty dairy industry, which forcibly impregnates cows, kidnaps their babies, and treats mother cows like milk machines instead of the deeply emotional individuals they are. Now, customers are free to choose whichever vegan milk they prefer in their latte and they won’t be unfairly charged for making a compassionate choice! https://lnkd.in/eAbdaUR #News #Starbucks #Coffee #VeganMilk #VeganLife #Vegan #Victory #Win #Activist #Activism #VictoryforAnimals #DairyFree #PlantBased #PlantBasedLifestyle
