“When people who require menstrual products — which is over half of our population — can't fully engage in school, can't fully engage in work or a commute to work, or athletics, or all the scholastic activities they want, it brings us all down, doesn't it?... We don't talk about hunger that way. We often don't talk about other basic needs that way. And so period products need to be considered part of the list of essential supplies that society needs to rely on to live their full selves.” Our Executive Director, Michela Bedard, recently spoke with Voice of America on how Governor Tim Walz' nickname, "Tampon Tim", helps to highlight the issue of period poverty in the United States. Menstruation isn't controversial - it's a normal biological process that half the global population will experience at some point in their lifetime. Yes, access to period products in schools actually matters. Here’s why ⬇ Nearly 1 in 4 students in the U.S. struggle to afford period products. A quarter of teens are also unable to do schoolwork because of a lack of access to products. 89% of teens agree that if there is free toilet paper in bathrooms, there should be free period products. Periods aren't weird and providing period products to students who need them certainly isn't. Access to period products ensures that students can be successful in the classroom regardless of their biological needs. Research from the 2023 State of the Period Study shows that 42% of teens (and 53% of adults) felt confused and unprepared when they got their first period. Stigma and secrecy surronding menstruation should NOT be the norm. Young people want to learn about their bodies! A majority of teens agree that education around menstrual health should be part of the core curriculum in school, just like math. Thank you AMV BBDO for bringing menstrual misinformation and stigma to light through this creative campaign. Periods are normal ‼ and no one should have to miss out on life because of their period. Introducing: Never Just A Period, our new campaign for Bodyform/Libresse 🩸 Nobody prepares us for a life inside our bodies. Like, how do I put a tampon up there? Why does my discharge smell like wet dog? Since when can blood clots be plum-sized?? Why did nobody tell me it hurts THIS much? Oh, so you can get your period whilst breastfeeding?? Endometri-WHAT? We get told “it’s just a period.” But it’s never just a period. It’s so much more. What do you wish you’d been told? A massive shoutout to all the incredible people behind this work, our AMVers, client partners at Essity, Tanja Grubner, Luciana de Azevedo Lara, Duncan Phillips and Astrid Schenk-Almagro, SMUGGLER, Framestore, Emote Films, Soundtree Music, tenthree, 750mph and Ketchum UK .
