Incredible generosity from the Haslam family to support important chronic lymphocytic leukemia research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute. We're also thrilled to have The Haslam 3 Foundation join our amazing roster of Pelotonia Funding Partners - a group that allows us to keep our commitment that 100% of every community-raised dollar is spent on cancer research.
Today, we’re excited to announce a $2 million donation from Dee and Jimmy Haslam and The Haslam 3 Foundation to further Pelotonia’s mission of ending cancer. Dee Haslam and Jimmy Haslam are managing partners of Haslam Sports Group, a sports and entertainment group with ownership of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns operating rights to Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew, co-ownership of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks Inc., and investors in the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association). This donation will directly fund research on Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) led by Jennifer Woyach, MD, hematologist-oncologist at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute and Pelotonia 2021 Researcher of the Year. While incurable, new targeted drugs – including ibrutinib and acalabrutinib – make it manageable to live with CLL. Both breakthrough CLL therapies were developed largely through research at the OSUCCC—James with Pelotonia funding support. This donation will help launch new clinical trials for frontline CLL to optimize therapy and expand research in immunotherapy for CLL. The Haslam 3 Foundation is also a new Pelotonia funding partner. Thanks to generous partners that provide operational support, 100% of participant-raised funds go to innovative cancer research. Today is a tremendously exciting day at Pelotonia. I have been fortunate to call Dee and Jimmy friends over the years and to have witnessed firsthand their generosity, leadership, and passion for helping others. Their investment at this critical moment in Pelotonia’s history is deeply appreciated. Having been active behind the scenes in the movement to Save The Crew, I was fortunate to meet Dee and Jimmy soon after they engaged in what would become a heroic effort to keep our MLS team in Columbus. Spending time with them over the years, I came to understand their goals and see how committed they are to supporting their passions. I have also been impressed by their commitment to innovation – and this new collaboration with Pelotonia is yet another way that they are investing in our community in groundbreaking ways. The Haslams’ $2 million donation to Pelotonia will support cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute beyond the critical fundraising from our community, 100% of which goes directly to cancer research, thanks to generous support of Pelotonia’s funding partners. As we count down the days to Ride Weekend on August 2-4, I am filled with gratitude to Dee and Jimmy for their leadership and vision. I am immensely excited to gather with our community next Friday and celebrate all that we have achieved together. And I am filled with hope for the work still to come – and for the many lives that will be changed and saved through the community's efforts. One Goal!

Ohio-born, feel-good indie pop band, Clubhouse, will headline Opening Ceremony on August 2! 🎉 Opening Ceremony kicks off Ride Weekend on Friday with community celebration, inspirational programming, and energetic entertainment. The headliner has been one of the most anticipated announcements over the past few months. Now the secret is out, and we promise it was worth the wait! Band members include Max Reichert on lead vocals plus twin brothers, Ari and Zak Blumer, on guitar and drums. The three now live in LA but have been playing together since middle school in central Ohio. Originally from Pataskala and Ohio University grads, Ohio is close to their hearts. They released the song “Ohio” last year about being homesick for their home state, and shot the music video shown here in rural Ohio. This event will be the perfect way to welcome Clubhouse back home to Ohio! The band performed at the Kenyon finish line celebration for Ride Weekend 2017, and is excited to return to Pelotonia, this time on a bigger stage and with an incredibly personal connection to our mission of Ending Cancer. Clubhouse lead singer, Max, is a cancer Survivor. In 2019, Max was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his femur, and has since battled multiple recurrences in his lungs, leg, and now shoulder. He recently had surgery and is currently undergoing treatment, including care at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute. His best friends, Ari and Zak, will ride the 20-mile route this Ride Weekend for Max, who is Living Proof. We’re beyond excited to share this news with the Pelotonia community and for Clubhouse to join us on stage at Opening Ceremony on Friday, August 2 – this is something you DON’T want to miss! 💚 Read the full announcement on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gquDyrJw
