Prolapse is a common but often overlooked issue that affects many women. According to the NIH, about 40% of women worldwide will experience pelvic organ prolapse (POP), and this proportion is expected to rise as the population ages. The U.S. Office on Women’s Health estimates that almost 3% of women in the United States are affected, with other studies suggesting up to half of women over age 50 experience some degree of POP. In the UK, a survey by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG revealed that 60% of women have symptoms of poor pelvic health. 👋 Ever heard of prolapse? Wondering what it has to do with lifting heavy things, childbirth, and menopause? 😬 According to the NIH about 40% of women worldwide, will experience pelvic organ prolapse (POP), and this proportion is expected to increase with the aging of the population. The U.S. Office on Women’s Health suggests it affects almost 3 percent of women in the United States, and other studies estimate that up to half of women over age 50 have some degree of pelvic organ prolapse. A more recent survey by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG suggested that a whopping 60% of UK women have symptoms of poor pelvic health. 😳 💰 The cost burdens associated with Pelvic Floor Disorders (PFDs) are complex and include both direct and indirect factors.
