City Club reached out to all candidates running in Portland’s new geographic districts, inviting them to respond to our survey. This survey was crafted with input from City Club’s board, members, event attendees, and email subscribers. In District 4, 18 candidates shared their perspectives with us. View responses from District 4 candidates and candidates from all four of Portland’s new geographic districts at 🔗pdxcityclub.org/2024🔗 where you’ll find our full collection of voter resources for the 2024 election! 📍About District 4 The district isn’t limited to westside neighborhoods. To ensure each district’s population was about the same size (around 163,000), the committee that mapped the city’s new districts was forced to include some eastside residents. Which means that, along with Downtown, Multnomah, the Pearl District and Linnton neighborhoods, District 4 will include the Southeast Portland neighborhoods of Reed, Eastmoreland, Sellwood-Moreland, and Ardenwald.

We are proud to be one of the 125 organizations that endorse Measure 117! Measure 117 would enact ranked choice voting for statewide and federal races, giving voters the option to rank candidates in order of preference: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. It’s a simple but effective improvement that gives you more choice and power on your ballot. Our Ballot Measure Study Committee spent over six months reviewing national and international case studies of ranked choice voting, interviewing both proponents and opponents, and analyzing whether the outcomes of RCV elections tend to favor one party over another. We concluded that RCV under Oregon Measure 117 provides significant improvements over Oregon’s current plurality system. While recognizing that all voting systems have flaws, the committee found that RCV enhances voter representation by allowing a more complete expression of preferences, making it a beneficial reform that more accurately reflects the majority’s sentiments. Despite concerns about RCV potentially favoring certain political parties, the committee found no evidence that it inherently benefits any particular party. We urge Oregonians to vote YES on Measure 117 this election! Learn more about our research: https://lnkd.in/gjHqZQiz
