Are employees working while vacationing, or vacationing while working? 🏖️ 🏢 HR Brew covered a recent survey by Perceptyx which found that 72% of employees work while on PTO. This trend, known as "workcationing," reveals a lack of boundaries between work and life, potentially leading to burnout. Emily Killham, senior director at Perceptyx, highlights three types of vacationers: - planned workcationers - unplanned workcationers - and true vacationers. Both planned and unplanned workcationers struggle to disconnect, often using personal devices to stay connected to work. Managers play a crucial role in this dynamic. If managers work during their vacations, their direct reports are more likely to do the same. HR leaders should focus on ensuring managers and employees have the space and flexibility to truly disconnect. Conducting "listening surveys" post-vacation can help identify underlying issues and inform better policies. Understanding these dynamics is key to fostering a healthier work-life balance and a happier, more productive workforce. Read the article today: https://lnkd.in/ehxwy_Hu

Managers are responsible for over 260 meetings a year — and they’re burned out. 💼 📉 HR Dive recently wrote that, according to a new report from Top Workplaces, 67% of managers struggle with heavy workloads and 35% are experiencing burnout, the highest rate across all job grades. This burnout is not just an individual issue but a significant organizational risk. "Managers are the backbone of any company, and their well-being directly affects productivity, employee satisfaction, and overall business success," says Kinsey Smith, senior data analyst at Top Workplaces. Managers lead teams, juggling competing needs from senior leaders and direct reports. The sheer volume of meetings, estimated at 260 per year for a team of 10, adds to their stress. Despite high ratings for people skills, managers often receive lower ratings for employee development and performance management, highlighting areas where they need more support. Organizations should invest in comprehensive training programs covering employee development, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Providing such support can help managers excel in their roles and improve overall organizational health. Let's take care of our managers, prioritizing their well-being to ensure a productive and satisfied workforce. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gBa9RYqD

HR and employees may have a significant disconnect regarding engagement priorities. 👀 HR Dive covered a recent SurveyMonkey report that surveyed 304 HR professionals and 2,593 U.S. workers. The report revealed that 80% of HR pros believe employees aren’t providing open and honest feedback. Conversely, 39% of workers feel uncomfortable sharing candid feedback, and 44% don't think it will lead to change. The report underscores the importance of fostering an open environment for honest feedback. "HR teams are only as effective as their ability to collect authentic feedback from their employees," it states. Employers should be cautious about requesting feedback if they aren't prepared to receive or act on it, as this can erode trust and engagement. The findings emphasize the need for HR to align more closely with employee perspectives to enhance workplace culture and effectiveness. Read the full article today: https://lnkd.in/gB85627m

Remote work is reshaping the talent landscape. 🏡 💼 Fortune writes that, according to a new report, 83% of recruiters believe that offering remote work has improved the quality of their talent pool. Jasmine Escalera, a career expert at MyPerfectResume, highlights that remote work allows organizations to tap into a global talent pool, stating, "Now you get to choose from all over the world." Despite this, many recruiters still prefer local candidates. The report notes that 49% of headhunters have a "strong preference" for local applicants and 47% have "some preference." Remote work also helps organizations connect with underrepresented populations, such as women and ethnic minorities, who benefit from the flexibility it offers. Escalera points out, "Women and caregivers were most impacted during the pandemic; people of color were also very impacted by the pandemic." Offering remote roles not only attracts stronger candidates but also helps retain employees by addressing issues like stress and burnout. As Escalera puts it, "Having more well-being, having more flexibility, it really speaks to organizations wanting to support the individual behind the work. Not just the work."
