Did you know that #concrete overlays can extend a pavement's lifespan by anywhere from 20 to 40 or more years? 📈 Concrete overlays can provide better durability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve sustainability by using existing materials as a base. They are commonly used for roadways, parking lots, and other infrastructure, providing a cost-effective solution for rehabilitation and strengthening while delivering a smoother, longer-lasting surface. #NRMCA Senior Director of Local Paving, Greg Halsted, recently participated in discussions with members of the national American Public Works Association (APWA) Transportation Committee, who were meeting in conjunction with the APWA Public Works Exposition (PWX) in Atlanta, GA. This meeting of the technical committee focused on upcoming training initiatives designed to help develop and promote environmentally sound, sustainable, cost effective, and safe transportation systems. Halsted, already a member of the committee’s Sustainable Transportation Subcommittee, offered to help draft an article for an upcoming issue of the APWA monthly magazine on the importance of low-carbon concrete mixes for public works projects. "Committee members noted that such an article was appropriate as the topic of lowering CO2 emissions was being seen more and more on their projects," Halsted said. While at PWX, Halsted took the opportunity to visit what is arguably the largest exhibit floor for public works equipment and services. Attended by over 5,000 public works professionals, including some 450 exhibiting companies, Halsted toured the exhibit floor chatting with current and prospective NRMCA members as well as allied cement and concrete industry partners. The committee meeting and trade show were both excellent opportunities to introduce city and county public works officials from all over North America to National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Pave Ahead program. Register for the PaveWise Concrete Conference today and come see Brian M. Killingsworth, P.E., Executive Vice President | Division Head, Local Paving, at the NRMCA Group present on Innovative Concrete Materials: Understanding How State-of-the-Art Materials Can Impact Your Paving Project. Check out the full PaveWise Concrete Conference agenda here: https://lnkd.in/eEdetjyc Traditional construction materials are undergoing significant change and concrete is no different. With the introduction of more blended cements, new admixtures, an array of supplementary cementitious materials, and more use of recycled or low carbon aggregates there is a need to understand how these changes may affect your paving projects. This session will cover how design considerations, construction and materials specifications, testing methods, and construction practices are affected by innovative concrete materials and what may need to be done to properly incorporate them into your projects. #PaveWise #PaveWiseConcreteConference #PavingConference #PaveWiseConference #ConcretePaving #FloridaConcrete #Concrete #PavementDesign #Construction #Pavement #ConcreteMaterials

Pervious #concrete has been gaining popularity for its eco-friendly and cost-effective benefits – 📈 Here are 3 reasons why it’s a game-changer: 💧– Reduce Stormwater Fees: Pervious concrete captures rainfall & minimizes runoff, lowering stormwater impact fees. 🚧 – Save on Construction & Maintenance: Acts as a natural detention and infiltration system, reducing the need for costly stormwater management structures. 🏠 – Increase Property Value: Frees up land for development, potentially enhancing property value and utility. Why is it getting popular? Read our infographic to learn more!
