For almost four decades, I've been on an incredible journey of self-discovery. Embracing my identity as a big, black, and bold man has been both empowering and challenging. I've encountered moments where my very presence has evoked discomfort in others, a stark reminder of the prejudices that still exist. However, I've learned that their reactions don't define my worth or potential. It's disheartening to admit that I've faced setbacks, even losing contracts (both stated and heavily implied) simply because of the color of my skin. Yet, I stand here today stronger and more resilient than ever. These experiences have only fueled my determination to rise above adversity. Only 1.9% of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals are black. I am proud and blessed to be named in that number! When I started on this journey 10 years ago, they didn’t believe I would make it because, and I quote, “Black people don’t invest, and no wealthy white people will work with you.” Well, here I am, helping to rewrite the narrative of financial empowerment and helping hardworking Americans understand complex financial information to create better outcomes for them and their families so that they can have confidence and optimism in their financial future. In fact, as Robert Kiyosaki rightly said, "It's not how much money you make, but how much money you keep, how hard it works for you, and how many generations you keep it for."
