We asked Pantheon Vision's COO Daniel Stonko: What is your motivation for Pantheon Vision's mission? "I spent the earlier part of my career focused on ocular tissue banking, specifically addressing corneal blindness using the current standard of care, which hasn’t significantly changed in over 100 years. Issues with traditional transplantation became apparent while traveling to underserved countries, where millions of patients annually are unnecessarily going blind, and across the US, where patients that do receive treatment have suboptimal outcomes. A majority of patients' vision could have been saved or have improved outcomes through alternative sustainable, scalable and effective solutions. Through Pantheon Vision, we are driven to develop a bioengineered corneal implant that utilizes emerging technologies and materials, with a global strategy to bring this product to patients around the world."

Corneal blindness affects roughly 13 million people worldwide. The primary treatment option for corneal blindness is corneal transplantation, which happens to be the most common donor tissue transplant. To address all of the challenges presented by corneal blindness, we must recognize the emotional and financial burden this disease can have on populations, particularly those in lower to middle-income countries where access to eyecare is limited. By raising awareness of corneal blindness and the need for more innovative treatment options, we strive to improve the health outcomes for all patients with corneal blindness globally. #cornealblindness #ophthalmology #cornealtransplant
