Curating an art gallery is just one more way we share our passion for design, art, beauty, community, and expression. Described as an “invisible gem” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and ArtsATL, Page’s Gallery 100 is celebrating 15 years of providing a gorgeous space for the intersection of fine arts and architecture by showcasing the works of national, regional, and local artists working across all mediums.   Writer Jerry Cullum described Gallery 100 as regularly presenting “exhibitions in harmony with the refined aesthetics of the firm that houses it.” And he noted that our gallery “has flourished in an iconic downtown building with no signage and only modest publicity.”    If you’re in Atlanta, please take time for an artistic infusion at Gallery 100. It’s free; open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, and ready to inspire!    Gallery 100 is located at 100 Peachtree Street NW, Mezzanine level within the Page Atlanta office. “Convergence is the Holy Grail for the future of medicine,” Page Healthcare Sector Leader Tushar Gupta, FAIA, told physicians and leadership during Grand Rounds at the Marnix E. Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Designing areas of intersection where researchers and clinical care staff can cross paths and share the excitement and innovation that comes out of spontaneous intellectual collisions – creating this convergence is a driving force for Page’s approach to healthcare design. Tushar and Page Healthcare Planning Director Mark Vaughan, FAIA, were thrilled to join Rubin Pillay PhD,MD,MBA,MSc,BSc(Hon)Pharm, Assistant Dean, Executive Director, and Chief Innovation Officer for the Institute, to share this approach and talk directly with doctors and medical professionals working on the front lines of healthcare. "It's about bringing people into a place they actually want to be,” said Mark, as he and Tushar explained how hospitals can extend health and wellness zones well into surrounding communities by providing spaces and opportunities for education, demonstration, exercise, support in making good and healthy decisions for wellness, and even offering events, such as concerts and lectures, that draw people closer together in shared experience. #GoodDesign is #GreenDesign. We’re thrilled that our work at Indeed Tower in Austin, Texas has been recognized with a 2024 Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Award from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum for Architecture and Design. Our design approach for this 36-story office tower included deliberately proportioned floor plates to allow for efficiency in space planning, penetration of natural light, and maximized views. The project far exceeded its original sustainability targets and has achieved LEED Core & Shell v4 Platinum certification from the United States Green Building Council, as well as a 4-star Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) Commercial Rating, Fitwel 1 Star certification, and WELL Health-Safety rating. The project collects, stores, and reuses rainwater onsite, resulting in 100% of site water being from non-potable sources. Potable water within the building was reduced by 30% -- saving 1.5 million gallons saved annually. Through high-performance glazing, interior lighting power reduction, and cooling equipment, Indeed achieved 14% (LEED) and 12.6% (AEGB) total cost reduction. Our contractor responsibly diverted 82.6% of demolition and construction materials from landfills and incineration, and 34% by cost of materials came from recycled and recyclable (closed loop) sources. Our goal? Recreate these high standards for sustainable building by helping clients nationwide realize cost savings in their projects and maximize the potential for positive impact in the physical environments of their communities and beyond. We are proud to have worked with our client Trammell Crow Company to create this true green gem in downtown Austin and continue to refine it under the stewardship of Kilroy Realty Corporation, which purchased the building in 2021. #GreenBuilding #SustainableDesign #ThinkWhatsPossible Photography: Albert Vecerka / Esto

“What is positive distraction? Positive distraction involves distracting oneself from a stressor by thinking about or engaging in activities that induce positive emotion. A number of studies have shown beneficial impacts of positive distractions on both adults and children undergoing procedures and treatments in healthcare settings. These studies have associated positive distractions with the reduction of pain, anxiety, stress, fatigue, distress, and other physiological and psychological outcomes. “The best wayfinding is meant to feel intuitive: a seamless structuring of the environment to guide patients and visitors as they navigate external and internal (and increasingly, virtual) spaces to get to their destinations. “As designers, we try to put ourselves in the shoes of families as they begin their journey to a doctor’s office or clinic. Depending on the circumstances, we already understand their frame of mind may not be the best. We start by asking ourselves, ‘What can we do to minimize anxiety?’ as we imagine them searching for visitor parking, elevator banks, reception, the exam room suite, restrooms, and the café. “At various decision points along this journey, we love to weave in moments of whimsy and fun for the youngest visitors, as we did at Intermountain Health Primary Children's Hospital, Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Campus, in Lehi, UT. “Not only do these special moments serve as memorable landmarks within the overall wayfinding strategy, but they also serve as ‘positive distractions’ while parents are making important decisions." – Page Senior Expert Graphics Designer Brandon Allen #PositiveDistraction #ThinkWhatsPossible #HealthcareDesign #Architecture Photography: Brad Feinknopf / feinknopf

National trends, challenges, and emerging innovations for cities and regions actively recruiting life science companies and research facilities were the topics of a recent panel discussion moderated by Page Technical Director/Principal/Senior Lab Planner Jane Baughman, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP. Panelists Harold Strong, Executive Director of Texas State University’s STAR Park; Kyla Frye, MBA, of Concept Companies, and Nancy Lyon, Director of ACC Bioscience Incubator, tackled topics including infrastructure needs, real estate requirements for start-ups, scaling from incubators, and how communities can create a supportive business environment. “Being close to an emerging life science hub is critical to a start-up’s need to balance company cost with access to cutting edge technology and a developed support structure,” says Jane. “In central Texas, for example, universities are playing a key role in the development of regional hubs and can be an important tool for bringing a product to market.” Nancy believes the Austin region is well-primed for collaboration: “We have a lot of entrepreneurs who like to work together. They are nimble thinking and interpersonal, and people are drawn to Austin because we have that culture.” Our thanks to the Round Rock Chamber for hosting “Health & Life Sciences Ecosystem” as part of its Momentum partnership with private-sector investors from the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. #LifeSciences #Hub #Incubators #DesignLed
