Today is Intersex Awareness Day! 💛💜 Join us in celebrating and supporting the intersex community. Did you know that up to 1.7% of the population is born with intersex traits? That's about as common as having natural red hair. However, some intersex people don't discover this about themselves until puberty—if ever. Intersex individuals deserve respect, dignity, and the right to make decisions about their own bodies, just like everyone else. You can support the bodily autonomy of intersex people by learning about and speaking out against non-consensual, harmful surgeries performed on intersex children in the US and internationally. Lastly, while being intersex doesn't automatically mean someone is LGBTQ , many intersex individuals are part of the queer community. This #IntersexAwarenessDay, we celebrate the diversity within our LGBTQIA family.

It's Asexuality Awareness Week! 💜🖤🤍 From October 20–26, we're celebrating asexuality. Did you know that asexuality is a sexual orientation where a person experiences little to no sexual attraction to others? It's one of the many beautiful ways human sexuality expresses itself. This week, let's learn more about the ace community, challenge misconceptions, and show our support for ace individuals in STEM. Remember, ace identities are valid and belong in the LGBTQ community!

I am so honored and thankful to receive the Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (oSTEM) Global STEM Service Award this year! A huge congratulations to their conference planning team on another wonderful conference, creating space for LGBTQ folks in STEM to come together as a community. Also, a reminder that the fight for equal rights and inclusion is far from over. Queer and Trans identities have never been more politicized than they are today, and your best weapon against legislation over our bodies and voices is your vote! Science is not apolitical so long as it includes scientists who experience unequal rights and inequitable inclusion.
