In Chapter 4 of our book, O'Reilly's **Implementing Data Mesh**, Jean-Georges Perrin and I discuss the core architecture components within a data mesh. First, we focus on the data product architecture and address the components required to support a wide ranging set of artifacts (not just data, but also data contracts, images, documents, programs/notebooks, and even AI models) as well as the components required for developing, running, and operating data products. Next, we focus on the broader data mesh architecture that binds all data products together into a unified ecosystem. We discuss the "Data Mesh Marketplace", a Data Mesh "Registry", and a full set of Data Mesh Backbone Services. And lastly, we apply the basic architecture components to Climate Quantum Inc., our use case, illustrating how the firm applies Data Mesh principles to manage a huge array of climate data products effectively. By leveraging Data Mesh, Climate Quantum enhances data accessibility, usability, sharing, and trust, demonstrating the data mesh's applicability to even the most complex data environments. Huge congratulations to Dawn Griffiths on the release of her new O'Reilly book, Excel Cookbook! I had the privilege of being a technical reviewer for this title and recently received my copy in the mail. Excel is a vast program used for a myriad of purposes by countless users, making the task of compiling a comprehensive guide a monumental endeavor. Dawn has done an exceptional job of providing real-world Excel tasks for a wide range of industries and skill levels. It’s safe to say that the depth and breadth of this book are such that almost everyone will find something new to learn! In an era increasingly filled with low-quality solutions to technical problems (yes, generative AI, I’m looking at you), having an expert compile an all-but-the-kitchen-sink cookbook is invaluable. Best wishes to Dawn on the release of this epic book—be sure to check it out!
