Orange County's groundwater authority since 1933
About us
Orange County's (Calif.) Groundwater Authority Since 1933. The Orange County Water District (OCWD) manages the large groundwater basin underlying north and central Orange County that provides 85 percent of the water for 2.5 million citizens. OCWD is committed to enhancing Orange County’s groundwater quality and reliability in an environmentally friendly manner. With nearly 90 years of prudent planning and careful investment, OCWD has doubled the sustainable yield of the groundwater basin. OCWD is a special district established by the California State Legislature in 1933 and governed by a 10-member board of directors. Separate from the County of Orange, OCWD supplies water to residents in the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda. 91 years ago today, on June 14, 1933, the Orange County Water District was founded. Since then, we have never strayed from our mission: to provide a reliable, high quality water supply in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. We thank you for allowing us to serve you for all these years! #OCWD #91Years

Thank you to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Assistant Administrator Bruno Pigott for visiting us to learn about our robust PFAS program. EPA staff and representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Young Kim and Congressman Lou Correa also joined as we toured the Linda Vista PFAS Treatment Plant in Anaheim, currently the second largest PFAS treatment plant in the nation. We appreciated the opportunity to showcase our efforts to address PFAS and look forward to continued collaboration to ensure high-quality water for those we serve. #OCWD #EPA #WaterQuality

We had a great time at the Water Infrastructure Networking Summit (WINS) where leaders, including OCWD President Cathy Green, spoke on critical infrastructure needs. Our team was proud to be on the WINS Host Committee and to engage in meaningful dialogue with regional leaders and government officials. #OCWD #WaterInnovation #RegionalCollaboration

Great work by our research department!
I’m pleased to share OCWD R&D’s latest article on PFAS removal performance of some additional commercially available pilot-scale resins and an alternative adsorbent. Performance varied quite a bit between adsorbents. Importantly, we found it was reasonably OK to run at a 50% EBCT (takes less pilot time) and still get predictive results (50% EBCT results x2 ~= 100% EBCT results). OCWD is the winner of not one but two awards from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO). The first award is an EPIC Award – Special Event One-Time, given for our GWRS Final Completion Dedication Event. Our entry scored so highly we also received the Best in Show Award, which was given to only a few of the 400 entries. We are thrilled to share these awards with our project partners Orange County Sanitation District and are thankful to CAPIO for recognizing the work done by our hard working staff in leading an event of this magnitude. #capio24
