Optica Quantum [#OPG_OpticaQ] research shows how the optical spectra for a dissipative Hopfield model in USC can be described quantum mechanically or classically: https://bit.ly/4cHR0Iu The results could be used to guide emerging experiments and significantly impact current models and interpretations of ultrastrong coupling between light and matter. I'm excited to share that I'll be speaking at the Global Photonics Economic Forum in Malaga, Spain, organized by Optica. Dubbed the new 'Davos of Photonics,' this forum will bring together 300 leaders from across the global photonics industry, including corporate executives, policymakers, and investors, for insightful discussions that will shape the future of photonics. There's no other event quite like it that focuses on the broad economic impact of optics and photonic technologies. Looking forward to seeing you in Malaga on October 1st! #Photonics #Optica #Forum

As promised, we have delivered. At today's launch, our international partners and Chapter advisors joined us as we officially declared the Chapter as an Optica-KNUST Photonics Student Chapter. With this new excitement and confidence, we will fulfill our mission and vision to advance knowledge in #optics and #photonics. We cannot fully express how much this means to us. A big thank you to Optica for their unwavering support from start to this point in our journey. It was truly fantastic to be a part of the Official Launch of the KNUST Photonics Student Chapter and Optica KNUST Student Chapter! Being there and seeing it all unfold was such a rewarding experience. This chapter is going to be a game-changer for students at College of Science, KNUST. It's not just about forming a group; it's about creating a space where students can collaborate, share ideas, and seize amazing learning opportunities in optics and photonics. I want to thank everyone involved in making this launch happen, especially the students Wilhelmina Jones, Prince Asare, PRINCE EDISON , Emmanuel Boahen and Joshua Je-chie Amaning et al and the speakers Fabian Ruf, Michael Ofosu Donkor, Matthew Posner, George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP ,and Akyana Britwum. Your hard work and dedication made this event truly special. I'm excited to continue supporting and collaborating with the student chapter. Together, we can make optics and photonics more visible and relevant in our community. Thanks again for inviting me to be a part of this journey. I can't wait to see what we achieve together!

Back home after 3 amazing days in Neuchâtel where Focuslight Switzerland hosted the first meeting of the Advance Manufacturing Alliance organised by Optica! We experienced a lively meeting full of fruitful discussions and a shared willingness to work together to better serve the industry and increase customer value. We saw many different opinions on how to shape the future of the Alliance, so we must continue to work together to make the best of it. As always, there was plenty of time to network and strengthen relationships while enjoying the beautiful views of Lake Neuchâtel and the Alps. A special thanks to my colleagues Helena Jelinkova, Reinhard Voelkel, Wilfried Noell, Dirk Hauschild, Harald Pier and Toralf SCHARF who contributed to the great success of the event and to the amazing Optica team for the perfect organisation, Carmen Paños, Olga Raz, Helena Diez-y-Riega and Jose Pozo. #manufacturingalliance #microoptics #cooperation #industry

I am excited to announce our recent publication in Optics Letters Optica on advancing photonics in the ultraviolet-C range (wavelength 200-280 nm), crucial for biosensing, pharmaceutical research, and environmental sensing. In our study, we reveal that thermal silicon oxide (TOX) on a silicon substrate is a promising candidate for integrated photonics in the UV-C. By removing the silicon substrate under selected regions, we create single-side suspended ridge waveguides. Our design guidelines address low-loss waveguide geometries and stress-induced wrinkling, achieving optical propagation losses below 3 and 4 dB/cm at 266 nm in air and water claddings, respectively. Notably, our waveguides are the first to achieve single-mode operation in the deep UV. We extend our gratitude to our co-authors for their invaluable contributions to this work Claudio Jaramillo, Chupao Lin, Niels Quack, Christophe Galland, and Nicolas Le Thomas. Sincere acknowledgement to Prof. Roel Baets for his support and valuable suggestions. This breakthrough opens new possibilities for on-chip UV-C biological sensing and imaging.
