America’s bachelor degree obsession is killing the economy and holding back millions of talented workers. Now there’s a bold campaign to ditch degree requirements, and it could unleash a whole new skilled workforce:

In the last 20 years, workers skilled through alternative routes rather than a bachelor's degree were screened out of over 7 million good-paying jobs. Explore how your company can tap into a new pool of skilled workers: https://lnkd.in/dz9dpC8S #HireSTARs #wkdev #tearthepaperceiling

Maybe AI won't discriminate – but people using AI might. After all, AI is “amplified intention,” Byron Auguste, CEO and co-founder of Opportunity@Work, tells WorkingNation Overheard at JFF Horizons. See why he thinks that’s a solid reason to expect it ultimately can be used to screen job candidates for skills-based hiring, not just pedigrees: https://lnkd.in/eQXyf6zA Get more WorkingNation Overheard insights from JFF Horizons 2024 in Washington, D.C., at https://lnkd.in/eEDh4ZmC. 70% of new jobs insist on a bachelor's degree, but fewer than 50% of workers have one. Employers must shift away from making hiring decisions contingent on whether a candidate has a 4-year degree, and instead prioritize skill-based hiring to bridge the opportunity gap in our labor market. PJMF partner Opportunity@Work has coined the term "STARs," or workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes. These individuals bring diverse perspectives and experiences, and managers must work to challenge the systemic barriers put in place to create a more equitable workplace. With a recently announced $20MM investment from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving, Opportunity@Work is accelerating economic mobility for 70 million STARs in the U.S. Learn more about Opportunity@Work's Reach for the STARs Report here and join us in advancing the future of work: https://buff.ly/4cIHdlP #EquitableWork #EqualOpportunity

National PSA campaigns have been working to reshape the "college-for-all" narrative and empower young people to "tear the paper ceiling." Join us at #JFFHorizons for a plenary facilitated by Nirvi Shah of The Hechinger Report and featuring our own Julie Lammers, where she and fellow panelists Lydia Logan of IBM and Byron Auguste of Opportunity@Work will discuss how they worked to shift the narrative around post-secondary career and education pathways through PSAs. https://lnkd.in/eb87BVwr
