REMINDER! PROPOSALS ARE DUE APRIL 3! The OCP Takes Action Against Silent Data Corruption! In the realm of computing systems, there lurks an insidious threat - Silent Data Corruption (SDC). A hardware-induced SDC is an error that occurs when data is corrupted within a computing system, often without any indication from the built-in error detection mechanisms. This can happen due to manufacturing defects, aging components, or even environmental factors. These errors may lead to anomalous/unpredictable software behavior, causing incorrect calculations, potentially leading to consequences like the loss of data. The OCP's Server Project has established the Server Component Resilience Workstream, focused explicitly on tackling hardware-induced Silent Data Corruption. This workstream, comprising key industry players Meta, Google, Intel, ARM, AMD, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, is launching a request for research proposals to fuel innovation in detection and prevention of SDC. The OCP Foundation is inviting researchers to submit proposals in the focus areas. Researchers interested in contributing to this groundbreaking initiative can submit their proposals by April 3, 2024 Read the full story and learn more here: [https://bit.ly/4biquWo]

The mission is to apply the benefits of open source collaboration to hardware and increase innovation.
About us
The Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) was initiated in 2011 with a mission to apply the benefits of open source and open collaboration to hardware and rapidly increase the pace of innovation in, near and around the data center’s networking equipment, general purpose and GPU servers, storage devices and appliances, and scalable rack designs. OCP’s collaboration model is being applied beyond the data center, helping to advance the telecom industry & EDGE infrastructure.

OCP adds a new dimension to the OCP Marketplace with the introduction of the Open Chiplet Economy! Chiplets have arrived in today’s semiconductor economy. They are no longer an idea or a conceptual design, but are used in a variety of high value products, such as CPUs, and GPUs for datacenter and AI applications or for future automotive usage. However, most chiplet products today are designed and delivered by a single company, with some multi-vendor ecosystems starting to form. To unlock the full potential of chiplets, where anyone can participate by offering or buying chiplets and related services, an open forum based on open standards is needed. The OCP offers a space for this interaction through a new section in its marketplace. Read the full story and learn more here: https://bit.ly/3So2Q2T

The Deadline for Submissions for Innovation Village Stations at the 2024 OCP Global Summit is this Friday, July 12! The OCP Innovation Village (previously the Experience Center) is a non-commercial section of the OCP Global Summit Exhibit Hall. This year the Innovation Village will include two curated sections: - As in previous years, a hands-on, engineering lab experience which showcases collective and collaborative work in-progress in OCP Projects that can include pre-product and full stack solutions embodying OCP Community-authored specifications, or software and hardware tools enabling best practices. - Previous years Future Technologies Symposium emerging technologies demonstrations that are likely to be included in products in the next 18 to 24 months. These demonstrations include innovative live models, physical prototypes, and simulations showcasing future technologies. The OCP Foundation may also invite adjacent communities to provide non-commercial technology demonstrations to enhance the overall educational experience of Summit attendees. The OCP Innovation Village will be showcased at the 2024 OCP Global Summit, October 15-17 in San Jose, California. See below for instructions and criteria to submit for a Station. https://bit.ly/4c9e1Us @OpenComputePrj #OCPSummit24 #FromIdeasToImpact

The OCP Foundation staff, and entire Community, is stunned to hear of the sudden passing of Erik Riedel. In the years that Erik was a volunteer leader and active participant in the OCP Community, he consistently showed an energy and passion that great communities are built around. He had a kind approach that was always warm, positive, caring, helpful and thoughtful. His loss has affected everyone who met him in a very personal way - over the course of one's career you encounter just a few people who make you think about things differently. Not just about your work, but about the way you should approach life. Erik had this impact on all of us. We valued every interaction with Erik because he had this infectious quality that left you feeling like together, we could change the world. And he did with the brief time that he was with us. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate, MA 02066. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Luke’s Church, 465 First Parish Rd, Scituate, MA 02066 with an open house reception at the Riedel home to follow. Our deepest sympathies are with his family. Contributions in Erik’s memory can be made here: https://gofund.me/31e3533e
