A collaboration to create a more sustainable St. Louis Region.

About us

OneSTL is a collaboration to create a more sustainable region. Our vision is a prosperous, healthy, and vibrant St. Louis region. OneSTL’s regional sustainability plan has evolved to include a dynamic network of organizations and individuals sharing ideas, expertise, and resources to meet our regional sustainability goals. We are focused on greenhouse gas emissions, access to healthy food, biodiversity, transit-oriented development, waste reduction, and water quality and green infrastructure. There are monthly sustainability labs at the T-Rex on the last Tuesday of the month -- you should join us!

Join us on July 30 to learn from Daniel Pribe, Chief Actuary at Lumeris, about the implications of climate change to insurance in the St. Louis region. Getting insurance is becoming more difficult across the country, due to recurring severe weather events such as hail, tornadoes, floods and wildfires. Find details for this event here: https://lnkd.in/dPNAzwpD

Some of us on the OneSTL communications team take transit regularly - but not all of us. Transit isn't always available where we are going, or the added travel time can be too great. #DumpthePump Day on June 20 is a great time to try transit, and new transit riders can sign up for a free transit pass for the month of July here: https://lnkd.in/ghvtnzQW If you wish transit were different in your area, you can join other voices calling for change, like Citizens for Modern Transit. You can also voice your support for transit during local planning processes in your area. These are some plans currently underway that may be in your area: St. Louis County Comprehensive Plan: https://lnkd.in/gfnZqwqm Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan: https://lnkd.in/gkXGgRDP Jefferson County Walk Bike Plan: https://lnkd.in/g8CAefbV City of St. Louis Transportation & Mobility Plan: https://lnkd.in/gCqzr5fd City of St. Louis Strategic Land Use Plan: https://lnkd.in/grU4NgZu

It is estimated that avoiding oil and gas investments in your 401(k) can save 22 tons of carbon emissions per year, while the following actions combined only add up to 16 tons: getting an electric car, installing solar, going vegan, not flying, buying recyclable materials only, composting waste, installing a heat pump, buying organic, buying local, upcycling waste, and unplugging devices. Banking and investing thoughtfully takes a bit of time but can have a big impact. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gPcazsbM

In 2023, restaurants participating in the Green Dining Alliance diverted 6,552 tons of food waste from landfills, some of it donated to organizations that serve people in need. Other restaurants interested in donating excess food can visit the GDA website and look under resources for food donation: https://lnkd.in/g2iDT9xi If you're interested in reducing food waste even further, you can join the discussion about a Food Waste Reduction Strategy at the OneSTL Sustainability Lab on May 28! Join the OneSTL Communications Team and others across the country for Bike to Work Week May 13-19! Among our small team, we commute around 450 miles car-free each month by biking, carpooling, or taking transit. Can you imagine the impact if we all made more car-free commutes year-round? If you have concerns about the safety of cycling near you, you can join Trailnet's Cyclist Advocacy Network to advocate for safe bike infrastructure: https://lnkd.in/gQw_g4wC On May 17, stop by for coffee at a Bike to Work hospitality station! https://lnkd.in/gyUtr2Gb

Please help us show our appreciation for the OneSTL Materials & Recycling Working Group, who collaborate on projects to reduce waste in the St. Louis region. Currently, the group has set a target to reduce our region's recycling contamination rate below 18% by 2025, through public education campaigns such as 'Stick with the 6' and proving recycling works by sharing success stories such as the local and circular lifecycle of an aluminum can! You can help us reach our goal by 'Sticking with the 6' items that should go in your recycling bin: paper, cardboard, plastic bottles & containers, glass, metal, and cartons. Learn more at RecycleResponsibly.org   Two fantastic subcommittees of this group work on Food Waste Reduction and Plastic Reduction. You can learn more about a Food Waste Reduction Strategy they are working on at the OneSTL Sustainability Lab on May 28! More info here: https://lnkd.in/g5NSDiFk
