OneSky began our work of training caregivers of young children in 2018 in Ulaanbaatar’s ger districts, home to many of Mongolia’s migrant families who often struggle to receive essential services. Now, partnering with local kindergartens and other nonprofits, OneSky trains and supports parents and guardians of children aged 0-8 with our evidence-based Family Skills Training curriculum. From January to July 2024, we reached 763 children and trained 283 caregivers, and we’re expanding our program to transform even more children’s lives in these low-resourced communities. Let’s talk about play with Dr. Wen Zhao, PhD, Senior Program Advisor at OneSky. When we provide opportunities for young children to play, we are supporting healthy brain development and building young children’s social and motor skills. “Did you know that in every culture, all over the world, children play? The United Nations even considers play to be the right of every child.” – Head Start, Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center

We are excited to continue our partnership with OneSky, supporting the transition-to-scale phase of the ‘Building Better Futures’ project, aimed at improving development outcomes of youngest children in Mongolia. Building on the success of the pilot phase and leveraging partnerships formulated with key stakeholders, including government, OneSky is now expanding its efforts to reach more children, families and childcare workers that need support – not only in Ulaanbaatar’s the 'ger' districts, but across Mongolia. Today we celebrate World Food Day as a grantee partner of Bainum Family Foundation’s Global Education Fund that is dedicated to ensuring food security for young children. OneSky, in collaboration with SPOON Foundation, developed training sessions within our childcare provider training program in Vietnam, which were focused on balanced nutrition and feeding techniques. Read Bainum’s blog post highlighting OneSky and other nonprofits that understand how essential nutrition is for the well-being of all children. Thank you Bainum Family Foundation for your support! #WorldFoodDay

In celebration of World Food Day, we’re uplifting some of our Legacy partners who are leading the way in integrating quality nutrition into early childhood programs. Ensuring that all children, particularly the youngest among us, have access to nutritious food is crucial — especially in the child care centers and programs where they spend so much of their time. Every child deserves to have their basic nutritional needs met, no matter where they live, during these vital years of development. Thank you Asia Community Foundation and the Lorinet Foundation for establishing the OneSky Impact Fund to help us scale OneSky’s caregiver training in Mongolia to better support early care and education for children in vulnerable communities like Tuka.

⭐ Scaling caregiver training for early childhood development in Mongolia - OneSky Impact Fund ⭐ Several years ago, Amraa and her husband made the hard choice to move from their rural home in Mongolia to the Ger districts on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar to find work. Climate change was wreaking havoc on the herding community and their entire family’s livelihood depended on a traditional nomadic way of life. Because of that, thousands of young families have migrated to the periphery of the city, where 840,000 people—60% of Ulaanbaatar’s population— now lives. While Amraa’s husband needed to travel, sometimes for days at a time, to support his family, Amraa was now alone caring for one-year-old Tuka. Without basic services like running water, winters were brutal. Fortunately, Amraa discovered the nearby OneSky Family Center. While Tuka started playing with new friends there, Amraa began OneSky’s #FamilySkills #Training program to learn new skills and gain knowledge to support her daughter’s development. Amraa and Tuka had finally found a nurturing community. As the weather grew warmer, however, disaster struck. Severe flash flooding destroyed Tuka’s home and her family’s belongings. Partnering with the district government and OneSky supporters, OneSky was able to donate fully furnished gers to eight families, including Tuka’s. “My daughter has blossomed because of my training at the Family Center,” Amraa says. “Now, with our new home, I know she will have a bright, bright future.” For the last 25 years, OneSky has been working to meet the early childhood care and #education needs of individual children, ultimately partnering to transform systems of care in Asia so that all children can thrive. With that, we have launched the OneSky Impact Fund which aims to scale the training of caregivers to support #earlychildhood #development and provide #marginalisedchildren aged 0-8 with the nurturing care and safe learning environments they need to thrive. OneSky is transforming early childhood care and education for vulnerable children by training adult caregivers to provide responsive care and create the types of safe and nurturing learning environments that help young children thrive. Their innovative approach is inspired by Reggio Emilia and grounded in global early childhood science and the Nurturing Care Framework. OneSky leverages a blended learning methodology consisting of in-person trainings, mentoring and online learning to transform young lives and systems of care across Asia. With support from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, the OneSky Early Learning Centre (ELC) in Vietnam addresses the needs of vulnerable children under the age of 6 who come from low-wage migrant factory worker families residing in Da Nang’s industrial zones. The ELC staff ensures children receive quality care and education, which allows parents to go to work with peace of mind. OneSky also engages the entire community through family activities and offers essential support, such as food and shelter, during crises. Collaborating with Vietnam’s education authorities, the ELC is advancing early childhood education for all children. Want to support this impactful work?
