About us
One Family Illinois (formerly SOS Children's Villages Illinois), founded over 30 years ago, is a non-profit organization that provides an individual licensed home in a supportive, community environment that marshals all the resources needed to help children in foster care heal and achieve their permanency goals. The Village Model of Care prioritizes the following: 1) Children live together with their siblings; 2) Children receive care and support from a full-time, professionally trained and licensed Foster Parent; 3) Children thrive in a private, single-family home; 4) Children benefit from the support of the Village, designed as an intentional community of care; and 5) Families receive strengthening services to support their needs and keep them intact whenever possible. One Family Illinois unites brothers and sisters in foster care and provides a safe space to heal for at-risk youth. Currently, the organization operates four sites: three Villages providing sibling group foster care at an 17-home Village (opened in 1993) in Lockport, Illinois; a 17-home Village (opened in 2004) in the Auburn Gresham, Englewood neighborhood of Chicago; a 14-home Village (opened in 2014) in the Roosevelt Square Community of Chicago, as well as Casa Tepeyac (acquired in 2011), a facility that offers preventative and in-home services in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago. One Family Illinois celebrates a 90% high school graduation rate, compared to a national average of 56% for children in foster care. In 2023, One Family Illinois maintained Candid’s (formerly GuideStar) highest award, Platinum Seal of Transparency, and Charity Navigator’s Rating of Four-Stars.

One Family Illinois (formerly SOS Children’s Villages Illinois) is immensely grateful to a team of skilled volunteers who recently completed a pro bono consulting project with us through Compass Pro Bono! ✨ The team of Chicago-based professionals, led by Steven Borowski, completed an assessment of our quality improvement practices, made recommendations for solutions, and got us well on our way to implementing new strategies to use data to inform our decision-making. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the volunteers and we could not more highly recommend Compass Pro Bono to any organization looking to tackle a complex issue. Our CEO, Dr. Delphine F. A decade after Tata Sons aided in the founding of a vegetable garden at the Parnell Campus of SOS Villages Illinois, volunteers from Tata Steel International (Americas) and Tata Consultancy Services - North America returned to revitalize the garden after a need for some tender care arose after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the watchful eye of SOS Villages staff, we had a wonderful day on June 26th building picnic tables for the garden, including one large picnic table and four small picnic tables specifically for children. We also spent time weeding the vegetable beds and laying down gardening fabric to prepare for the spread of wood chips. Volunteers, SOS Villages staff, the foster caretakers, and the foster children were then treated to a picnic lunch and game day, which included but was not limited to tug of war, bubble blowing, hula hooping, frisbee, and sidewalk chalk art. The children also revisited the garden to see the growth of the vegetables and learn more about the gardening process. As SOS Villages Illinois makes an official name change and transition to One Family Illinois, Tata Steel is excited to continue our partnership in order to provide opportunities and support to the foster children and families on all of the organization’s campuses. #CSR #SocialImpact #ThisIsTata
