My career began at a small, family-owned Italian restaurant during high school, and a year after graduation, I started working at Mt. Washington. In 2021, I moved to Wyoming, where I learned laminated pastries. Later, I returned to the East Coast to further develop and hone my skills. In November 2023, Chef Edith invited me to interview for the position of Pastry Sous Chef, which included a tasting of 25 different desserts. Having previously worked at the Omni Mount Washington Resort from May 2019 to April 2021, I am delighted to have rejoined the team since November 2023. My mother, a chef herself, inspired my culinary career. Growing up in the food service industry, I cherished cooking and baking alongside her, learning the essential fundamentals and kitchen etiquette. She was even a part of the Mount Washington team when it operated seasonally, prior to Omni's acquisition. It was Chef Edith who imparted the finer culinary skills and techniques to me, and her mentorship is the reason for my return to Omni. A huge thank you to all those who recently joined us for our wedding planners' site and venue visit with the Catering Sales Team at Omni Mount Washington Resort. Artist Spotlight: Michele Johnsen has spent a lifetime as an artist and maker. She has owned and operated The Studio since 1996 where she did all manner of commercial work along with framing and sign painting. She began a foray into the fine art world during this time and produced a large number of portrait pieces for a wide variety of clientele. In 2001 she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Granite State College in Art Education and spent 15 years teaching art in the Colebrook School System to students in grades 1 through 12. She received a Master of Fine Art degree from New Hampshire Institute of Art in January of 2017 and retired from teaching in 2020 to devote her time to her artistic practice full time. She’s been incremental in establishing several art associations in the Colebrook area including Lovering Mountain Arts, Colebrook Arts and the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts and is currently on the board of the Connecticut River Artisan Group and The Tillotson Center for the Arts. July is #NationalCulinaryArtsMonth , and we're amplifying our talented chefs who create your memorable dining experiences here at the Omni Mount Washington Resort. Chef Jason Royal is the culinarian behind your favorite après-ski nosh in the winter at Slopeside Restaurant. In the off-season, he's busy creating behind the scenes in our Banquets department. Chef Jason attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and has been with the Omni Mount Washington Resort for two and a half years. Artist Spotlint: Kathy Shuster, Bethlehem, NH - Inspired by the study of natural and medical sciences, Kathy Shuster is the retired director and head illustrator of the Scientific Illustration and Photography Unit of Purdue University’s Biology Department in West Lafayette, Indiana. Shuster’s work is published in a multitude of scientific journals, and is exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her work is in permanent collections in the United States, British Columbia, and Taiwan, and is included in the permanent traveling exhibit of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators featured at museums, colleges, and universities around the United States and abroad. In 1995, Shuster relocated to the White Mountains of Bethlehem, NH, to raise her son in “God’s Country”, and recently turned her artist’s eye to focus on north country subject matter. Artist Spotlight: Rebecca M. Fullerton, of Bethlehem, NH has a passion for the forests and mountains of New England. When not painting and drawing the region's wild scenery in her studio or en plein air, she is probably hiking, running on a trail, or out on a lake or river in a kayak. The grandeur of alpine summits, the intricacy of intertwining limbs in the deep woods, and sparkle of rushing water in a mountain stream inspire and inform her painting practice.
