  • OPPD employees made a splash last week, diving into a dunk tank to raise over $3,500 for our Energy Assistance Program (EAP). 100% of EAP funds go toward helping customers struggling to pay their utility bills, and the program is entirely funded by generous donations from customers, employees and community partners. With demand for energy assistance increasing, especially during these hot summer months, this event highlighted the critical need in our community. A huge thank you to everyone who participated and donated to this important cause! 🥎💧

  • Meet Terry, Drafter at OPPD. 👋 Motivated by a desire to help create something that serves the community, Terry is proud that his last six years at OPPD have given him something tangible to point to and say, "I helped make that." ✏️💻 His typical day as a drafter consists of working on new drawings while fielding revisions to others, communicating with engineers and responding to miscellaneous requests. He loves seeing the plans he puts to paper be translated to the electrical grid that serves our customers. Drafters are the liaisons between engineers and the crews that install equipment, so clear communication and adaptability are key. Having an open mind is also useful when it comes to cultivating a broad knowledge base and effectively connecting with team members. Terry says that being a drafter is, "...all about accurate information. The more good information you have, the better decisions you can make.” 🧡

  • Meet Chris, Day Ahead Energy Marketer at OPPD. 👋 Chris started as a Real Time Energy Marketer before moving to his current role six years ago. Drawn to the dynamic and challenging world of Energy Marketing and Trading (EM&T), he found the perfect fit for his skills after researching and talking with colleagues. A typical day for Chris starts early, around 5:30 a.m. He checks weather forecasts and other data to plan the next day's energy needs. By coordinating with plant supervisors and using fuel prices, Chris helps OPPD optimize generating assets in a competitive energy market. He appreciates a fast-paced environment filled with planning, data entries and double-checking market submissions. Chris enjoys the constantly changing nature of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Market, which brings new challenges. His ability to improve workflows gives him more time for analysis and strategy. His role is crucial to OPPD, as he makes important decisions using data and past experiences. Chris' advice for those considering a career in energy marketing: "Don’t give up or get discouraged if you don’t land the position on your first try. I applied more than once before getting my position."

He highlighted that the energy transition is a marathon requiring excellence from everyone involved.
