How is AI transforming mobility? 👉 Transportation combines the physical world of rail tracks, airplanes, and car engines with the IT necessary to manage fleets and infrastructure in highly complex operations — all while in the service of customers who must be kept safe, and who demand personalized treatment. AI solutions help address and balance the need to create top-notch, but safe travel experiences. Mobility’s unique history of innovation makes its experiences relevant and transferable to a range of other industries. This week at Climate Week NYC, we were excited to host a panel discussion on how innovative mobility solutions can contribute to sustainable urban development. Dr. Andreas Nienhaus welcomed Andrew Cornelia, Maria Gotsch, Patrick Knoth, and Micah Kotch to explore our latest research on growth projections for shared and digital mobility services through 2035, and their impacts on various mobility industries. Our key takeaways: ▶️ Investment in low-carbon solutions like charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is no longer just an ESG initiative; it’s good, profitable business. The challenge now is scaling it rapidly to meet targets for 2030 and 2035. ▶️ Collaborative partnerships, both within industry and between the public and private sectors, can accelerate the sustainable mobility transition and ensure that micromobility solutions like e-bikes complement, rather than compete with, existing transportation infrastructure. ▶️ There’s plenty of low-hanging fruit that cities can seize at relatively low cost, like expanding bike lanes and using battery technology to accelerate the growth of fast-charging stations. As the world intensifies its efforts to combat climate change, understanding the shifts in the mobility sector is increasingly important in achieving sustainability goals. We were honored to join Women Political Leaders (WPL) and The World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law initiative in hosting a discussion on women's political represenation in New York this week, building on key themes of #UNGA79. We were also excited to preview findings from our Representation Matters 2024 report. Thank you to our speakers Cherie Blair CBE (Cherie Booth K.C.), Monica Geingos, Arzu Rana Deuba, Michelle Harrison, Isata Mahoi and Francine Pickup for an engaging discussion. With Silvana Koch-Mehrin, Tea Trumbic, Ana Kreacic, and Dominik W., we explored what’s happening across government, business, and society to enhance women’s representation in both political and economic spheres. Three key takeaways: ▶️ Economic and political power are two sides of the same coin and women need to make progress on both fronts. ▶️ Bias against women as leaders remains pervasive, and may be aggravated by the power of social media to spread negative messages. ▶️ Gender equality isn’t a zero-sum game. Building on 2023’s inaugural report, this year's edition delves into the relationship between increased women’s political representation and women’s economic rights. Do you use mobility apps? 📱 In our recent global survey, we asked consumers to select the number of mobility apps on their phone, and results show app downloads are highest in Hong Kong, India, and Saudi Arabia. The key to growing public transit ridership lies in raising awareness among commuters of new opportunities and making journey planning seamless with a single app, according to Heather Repenning, head of sustainability executive officer for sustainability policy for LA Metro, and panelist at our SXSW discussion on the future of urban mobility earlier this year.
