The OhioHealth Mobile Stroke Unit (MSTU) is commemorating five years of life-saving service to the central Ohio community. Responding 7 days a week, MSTU is dispatched to stroke 911 calls through the Columbus Fire Alarm Office. Two mobile units are specially equipped and staffed by trained providers, different from traditional EMS squads. This allows stroke-specific care to be started while a patient is in route to the hospital. The vehicle also connects virtually with OhioHealth stroke neurologists who help determine if the patient is having a stroke and what type through a CT scan. Minutes are precious when treating strokes, and we’re thankful to share MSTU has evaluated more than 2,450 patients since it’s launch in 2019.

United by the OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon, Jet's Pizza, M3S Sports and Roosters Wings have donated more than $66,000 to the OhioHealth Foundation to provide funding for our scalp cooling therapy program, an innovative cancer care treatment that can help prevent or minimize hair loss from chemotherapy. The “Jet’s Pizza Gives Back” promotion and partnership with Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets contributed to over $43,000 of the generous gift. This philanthropic support means cancer patients can retain a sense of dignity and control during their treatment journey – as most traditional insurance plans do not cover costs associated with scalp cooling. A colorful example of pride in practice. 🏳️🌈 Along with OhioHealth’s PRIDE Business Resource Group, more than 250 associates participated in the Stonewall Columbus Pride March & Festival this past weekend. It was one of our largest employer-sponsored teams for a community event – a testament to the inclusive care and safe workplace we provide for the LGBTQIA community and allies.

This week, he was honored as the John P. McConnell Endowed Chair for Cancer Research.
