The annual OSGC (Ohio Space Grant Consortium) robotics tournament held by the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) captured the attention of over 100 students, all focused on Rapid Relay, this year's VEX Robotics IQ challenge. Teams of students collaborated to design and build robots capable of capturing a ball and shooting it through a target. The game involved both game controllers and autonomous programming created by the students themselves, who ranged from grades 4 to 8. Trophies were awarded for Teamwork and Robot Skills, with the Teamwork Champions being the Men in Pink from Norwalk Middle School and the Top Dogz from Margaretta Middle School. The Robot Skills Champions were the Coding Pirates from Future Innovators Middle School. Students also took part in a biomimicry challenge, designing and constructing spacecraft from recycled materials that mimic elements found in nature. 🚀 Neuromorphic Computing for Space: Recognized Innovation at DASC 2024! 🌌 At DASC 2024, Parallax Advanced Research, together with the OSGC (Ohio Space Grant Consortium), University of Dayton (UD), University of Cincinnati (UC), Sinclair Community College, and Brno University of Defense Defense in Czechia, received finalist honors for their neuromorphic computing project aimed at space exploration. Led by Dr. Steve Harbour, PhD, Stephen Schlager, and David Harbour (OSGC intern, UD), this project leverages neuromorphic event-based systems to power autonomous navigation for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Mars drones—critical in resource-scarce environments like Mars.
