On the fifth day of our economic development mission, I spent the morning meeting with business executives before boarding a high-speed bullet train to meet with Japanese government officials to strengthen the enduring bond between Texas and Japan. In Tokyo, I met with many Japanese business leaders hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to highlight how Texas and Japan are critical economic partners. Texas has a strong relationship with Japanese companies who have invested in our state, including Mitsubishi, Tokyo Electron, Fujifilm, and Toyota. In the afternoon, I met with Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi of Japan. During the meeting, we explored ways Texas and Japan can continue to bolster our economic partnership through more trade and new foreign direct investments. I then visited with Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoko Kamikawa. I look forward to furthering the relationship between Texas and Japan to build a more innovative future for our people. To wrap up the day, I visited the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo at the Ambassador’s residence. Thank you for such a warm welcome to Japan. More on day 5: https://bit.ly/4cRvf9a

The fourth day of our economic development mission took us to Nagoya, Japan, where we had an enriching experience focused on bolstering our relationship with Toyota and Japanese businesses. I met with Toyota executives at the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. Toyota has been a vital part of Texas’s economy for over 20 years. Their significant investments in manufacturing facilities in Plano and San Antonio have brought thousands of good-paying jobs to hardworking Texans. Later, I met with executives from Aisin to discuss our long-standing partnership and future collaborative efforts in automotive manufacturing. I also thanked them for their recent investment in Cibolo. I look forward to continuing our economic development mission as we build a more innovative future for both Texas and Japan. Day 3 of our economic development mission took us to Pyeongtaek, South Korea, where I met Samsung executives at their semiconductor campus. Samsung’s significant investments in Texas, including two fabs in Austin and one in Taylor, are an integral part of our strong economic partnership. Texas is proud to work with this global powerhouse to expand their presence in our great state. In the afternoon, I joined executives from SeAH Group, a South Korean-based holding company that specializes in steel products, to announce their new metal manufacturing plant in Temple. This $110 million capital investment will create more than 100 good-paying jobs and mark a significant expansion of SeAH Group in Texas. By working together, we will drive the future of innovation and provide economic freedom and opportunity for our two peoples. More here: https://bit.ly/3S1tJt4

The first day of our economic development mission to Taiwan was a resounding success and marked a pivotal moment in strengthening the bond between Texas and Taiwan. I met with President Lai Ching-te in Taipei to discuss the various ways we can enhance our economic and cultural ties. Later in the morning, I signed an Economic Development Statement of Intent with Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs Jyh-Huei Kuo to encourage more investment, trade, and collaboration in key industries to support future innovation. Following the signing ceremony, I was proud to announce the establishment of the State of Texas Taiwan Office. Our goal is to facilitate closer cooperation and foster mutually beneficial economic growth and cultural exchange. I then attended a luncheon hosted by the Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-Lung, where I met with business leaders from across Taiwan. To close out the day, I met with a GlobiTech executive to discuss opportunities for collaboration in the semiconductors and telecommunications industries. Excited for the opportunities ahead as we continue our three-nation economic development mission to Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. More: https://bit.ly/3VT136L
