This week, members of Oatey's Women's Resource Network volunteered at the "Let's Build Construction Careers" camp for girls in Canfield, Ohio, which aims to encourage middle school and high school girls to consider careers in construction and the skilled trades. This was Oatey's second year sponsoring and volunteering at the camp, and this year we had the privilege of leading the plumbing training day with the help Jim Eichenser, Oatey's technical customer service specialist. Campers learned about how plumbing systems work and got hands-on experience solvent welding, installing a supply box, pulling and setting a toilet, installing a sink basket strainer and more! 🛠️ We were thrilled to be a part of this powerful initiative to expose young women to the many opportunities in the trades!

Last week, Oatey interns concluded their third and final Campus Cleveland outing! They began the day meeting with Tiffany Scruggs, Vice President of Client Services at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. She discussed the food bank's origins, mission, and why it is crucial for our community. Interns then traveled to various volunteer sites, such as Medwish, Cleveland Kid's Book Bank, the Cleveland Metroparks, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and the May Dugan Center, where they completed tasks, including sorting books and donated medical equipment. After a morning of volunteer work, the interns set out for a walking tour along the flats' East Bank and Riverfront areas led by Mera Cardenas, the Executive Director of Canalway Partners, and Jim Haviland, the Executive Director of Flats Forward Inc. During their walk, they learned all about the history of the waterway and the city and how Cleveland got to where it is today. To close out the day and the Campus Cleveland series overall, the interns heard from Scott Simon, author the of self-help book, "Scare Your Soul." Sharing stories from his life, Simon stressed the importance of courageousness and stepping outside of our comfort zones.
