During and after a weather emergency, our forestry crews leap to action to clean up. This morning, we're cleaning up from the high winds caused by the remnants of Hurricane Debby. If you see forestry workers today, be sure to thank them for their hard work! If you are experiencing storm damage or downed trees in your neighborhood, visit https://on.nyc.gov/3WGTl0b to report it to NYC311.
About us
The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation is New York City's principal provider of recreational and athletic facilities and programs. Our parks are home to free concerts, world-class sports events, and cultural festivals. Parks & Recreation is the steward of nearly 14 percent of New York City's land, including thousands of individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, public pools, recreational facilities, nature centers, golf courses, and beaches throughout the five boroughs. We also care for monuments and historic house museums and look after hundreds of thousands of street trees (even more within parks).

Thank you to our brave and quick-thinking Parks Enforcement Patrol officers for their heroic efforts this week. On Monday evening at Rockaway Beach, Sgt. Tareque Inan, Sgt. Joel Semanduy, CSA Roderick Smith, CSA Eric Hinestroza, and CSA Elijah Ammi assisted in an after-hours rescue, together pulling three New Yorkers from a rip current. Thank you to CSA Hinestroza for spotting the individuals, and CSA Ammi for entering the water to rescue them, and to the whole team for coordinating with EMS. We remind all New Yorkers to stay safe and follow the rules: only swim when and where lifeguards are on duty.

"Whether you want to get fit, make new friends, or simply try something new, your local community center has something for everyone. You might fall in love with the experience, just like I did." Why choose a community recreation center over a large chain gym? Shape Up NYC instructor Aubry Bright breaks it down for Popsugar. Learn about the benefits of community fitness spaces like recreation centers, and how they can become your new third space: https://lnkd.in/eaCc7ESe
