The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund’s Office of Investment Management and Nuveen gathered together to share pension insights and sustainability goals, while exploring potential strategic partnership opportunities between the two organizations. The day-long session included discussions around capabilities in Responsible Investing, Impact, Global Energy Transition, Financing the Middle Market with Private Capital, Natural Capital and Real Estate. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) was established in 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations. The UNJSPF’s Office of Investment Management is responsible for the investment of Fund’s assets to safeguard the welfare of its stakeholders. Through philosophical alignment on culture and mission, especially around securing the financial futures of pensioners and participants, meeting attendees from both sides were able to connect on a meaningful and personal level to identify potential strategic partnership themes in areas ranging from sustainability and agriculture to affordable housing and impact bonds. Nuveen expresses gratitude and appreciation for the warm welcome, hospitality, energy level and engagement throughout the discussion. Special thanks to the UN team led by Pedro Guazo, CEO of UNJSPF and representative of the Secretary-General; Toru Shindo, Chief Investment Officer; and Bill Wilkinson, Chief Operating Officer, along with the Nuveen team led by CEO Bill Huffman and Head of Global Client Group Mike Perry.
