Grateful to have been in conversation on Friday, Sept. 13th with the talented Brenda L Croft, First Nations artist and scholar from Australia. Her exhibit "Naabámi (thou shall/will see): Barangaroo (army of me)" at the Embassy of Australia, United States of America features large-scale portraits of contemporary women and girls, the descendants of First Nations/Cammeraygal fisherwoman Barangaroo, whose steadfast resistance to cultural and political erasure during the initial contact with British colonizers inspired the country's groundbreaking Apology to Australia's Indigenous Peoples on February 13, 2008. Thank you to both Prof. Croft and the Embassy for hosting our graduate students for a tour the exhibit and a lunch discussion with public and private sector leaders in learning more about how this powerful art and its connection with public policy in both of our nations.
