It’s an age-old question: How is money connected to happiness? Here’s what the research says 👇 In 2010, Nobel Prize winners Daniel Kahneman and Angus Deaton found that more money correlates with more happiness, but only up to an annual household income of around $75,000 per year. This was a feel-good finding. People took it to mean that maybe you didn’t need to chase money, because the richest person in the world might not necessarily be happier than a solid middle class earner. Then in 2021, happiness researcher Matt Killingsworth found nearly the opposite: More money DOES correlate with more happiness, and there’s no plateau. This threw Kahneman and Deaton’s earlier research into question 🤔 On this episode of Planet Money, we tell the story of how researchers with different findings worked together to get closer to the truth about how money is related to happiness. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eEnFZjpe How have you thought about money and happiness in your own life? Tell us here or at [email protected].

Last year's strike against Ford, GM and Stellantis yielded record contracts for autoworkers — and there’s no doubt workers are earning more money. For some, significantly more. Since the strike, pay has jumped by more than $5 an hour for most workers. Some temporary workers who were converted to permanent employees have seen their hourly wages nearly double. But scheduled overtime has fallen dramatically. And now, with a slowdown in car sales, Stellantis workers face job cuts, production slowdowns, and uncertainty. More from NPR correspondent Andrea Hsu:
Union autoworkers won big after striking. A year later, some face an uncertain future
