During the night of June 29-30, the Rhone river burst its banks after persistent heavy rainfall and flooded parts of the city of Sierre and other regions in the canton of Valais, in Switzerland. Our Novelis plant in Sierre was also affected by this natural catastrophe. Overnight, vast amounts of water entered the factory premises and production halls, also bringing mud and sand.   Thankfully, no one was injured. Our emergency protocols were immediately activated and executed in collaboration with the city fire brigades and official authorities. All employees were safely evacuated, production operations have been halted and access to the plant was restricted for two days for security reasons.   After safe access could be restored, today around 150 Novelis Sierre colleagues were back on site to help cleaning and restoring our plant. The amount of collaboration among our team and all people involved in the emergency response and recovery efforts was extraordinary.   A very heartful and big thank you to the Sierre fire brigade and other official authorities for helping us in the past two days in this difficult situation with removing water from the basements and restoring the plant area. We continue our tireless work to bring our plant back into good shape with great strides. We also extend our deepest sympathy to the Sierre community and all the people in the surrounding area and wish those affected a quick recovery.

Novelis is pleased to announce that Cary Chenanda has been appointed executive vice president of Novelis and president of Novelis North America. As head of the region, Chenanda will lead all aspects of the company’s business in North America, which is made up of 15 plants and more than 4,000 employees serving the beverage packaging, automotive and specialties markets.        Chenanda joined Novelis in April 2024 as president designate of the North America region. Prior to Novelis, Chenanda spent 25 years at Cummins and most recently held the position of vice president & general manager of Cummins Emissions Solutions, a business with 4,500 employees, 12 manufacturing plants, seven technical centers, and two joint ventures across the Americas, Australia, China, Europe, India, Japan and South Korea. https://lnkd.in/egDg5Uxk

We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully completed the qualification process for our new high recycled content alloy at JLR. The alloy can contain more than 85% recycled content, making it one of the highest recycling alloys in the automotive sector. This is a significant achievement and a proof of our commitment to sustainability and innovation. We are proud to say that this development is an important step towards our goal of the 6000 Uni Alloy Family solution, a powerful enabler for circular economy and decarbonization. At ILA 2024 in Berlin (Germany), Novelis showcased its pioneering aluminum solutions for the aerospace industry. Highlights included the "Recyclometer," demonstrating up to 95% energy savings and CO2 reduction through efficient recycling by the same amount. In collaboration with Airbus, we presented an aircraft fuselage demonstrator made from our newly developed sheet product and welded with the friction stir technology. Novelis underscored its position as a leading aluminum supplier, meeting up to 90% of the aerospace industry's demand for plate and sheet. #Novelis #PioneeringAerospace #ILA

Novelis was pleased to host the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, member company reps and state legislators, including Sen. Greg Goode and Reps. Bob Heaton, Alan Morrison and Tonya Pfaff, at our plant in Terre Haute, IN. Great discussion on business challenges including recycling and an excellent tour of the Novelis plant. We enjoyed acknowledging Rep. Pfaff’s leadership on the recent IN House Resolution recognizing the importance of aluminum and recycling. Special thanks to Ryan Smith, Amanda Hogue and Dave Ober.
