He was only 32 when he met Dr. Rashid Janjua with Novant Health Brain & Spine Surgery - Kimel Park in Winston-Salem. Without treatment, many patients with this diagnosis are given four months to live. But he refused to let go of the life he loves. When Novant Health assistant nurse manager Cale Banks found a concerning spot on his back, he had the unique experience of being a patient in the operating room he helped manage. He was shocked when his biopsy came back as Stage 2a malignant melanoma, but relieved when he found big city care at Novant Health Cancer Institute – Rowan, just across the street from his job. After a year of immunotherapy under the care of his new friend Dr. William Brinkley, Cale recently rang the bell signaling the end of his treatment.

Pam Ward was supposed to be enjoying her well-earned retirement. That was until the sciatic pain in her leg left her unable to take a step without the aid of a walker. When medication, physical therapy and chiropractic care fell short, it was clear Pam needed spine surgery. That’s when she met “hero” neurosurgeon Dr. Michelle De Witt, who Pam credits for her return to the life she loved. Today she’s back to chauffeuring her grandkids, taking trips to the Big Apple and even riding roller coasters! https://lnkd.in/eFFXQKmi
