Honoring the legacy of Marcus Garvey on his birthday, a visionary leader whose impact resonates across generations. During his time in London, Garvey was deeply influenced by black colonial writers and the rising nationalist movements in Ireland and Africa. However, it was Booker T. Washington's Up From Slavery that truly shaped his philosophy of self-help and empowerment. Upon returning to Jamaica in 1914, Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) with the motto 'One God! One Aim! One Destiny!' Garvey and the UNIA went on to lead the largest mass movement in African-American history, advocating for a powerful 'Back to Africa' message. By the early 1920s, the UNIA had established 700 branches across thirty-eight states, leaving an indelible mark on the struggle for black empowerment and unity. ✊🏾🌍 #MarcusGarvey #UNIA #BlackNationalism

Yesterday, I had the incredible honor of being a guest on Voice of America 🎙️, sharing my journey as an alumni of the Mandela Washington Fellowship and my passion for the AfriTech Fellowship 🌍—a project that is truly close to my heart. It was a powerful moment to voice my commitment to driving change in my community in Mauritius ❤️ 💙 💛 💚 and, ultimately, across Africa. I would like to extend my thanks to the U.S. Embassy Port Louis for believing in me and for the continuous support. I pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that our rich natural and cultural heritage is preserved and passed down with pride, preventing the loss of precious memories as the years go by. 2892 Miles to Go, an educational program founded by #NatGeoExplorer Ashley Lamb-Sinclair, offers youth the opportunity to collaborate with local leaders, educators, advocates and change-makers to reclaim community histories and stories together.
