Thank you to the Bush family and all who came out to support Gary's House. Hundreds of people rely on the services of Gary's House each year, and the generosity of participants at this annual event helps ensure it will be here for years to come.
About us
Northern Light Mercy Hospital is an acute care hospital in Portland, Maine with a total of 230 inpatient beds. All rooms are 100 percent private. Private rooms enhance a speedy recovery and a more restful, less stressful stay for our patients. Beyond our doors, you’ll find the latest medical technology, used by a team of highly skilled doctors, nurses, physician assistants, therapists, and support staff. Alongside all of this technology, you’ll find care that recognizes each patient – body, mind, and spirit. Established in 1918 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and the Sisters of Mercy, Northern Light Mercy Hospital’s mission has always been to carry out the healing work of Christ by providing compassionate, accessible, clinically excellent healthcare, especially to the poor and disadvantaged. We advocate for a society in which all can realize their full potential and achieve the common good. We give priority to those that society ignores. Our community focus amounts to nearly $12 million in benefits annually. These benefits range from unreimbursed and pro-bono medical services to community education and prevention outreach. Northern Light Mercy Hospital is part of a non-profit organization and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.

On Thursday, the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce honored Northern Light Mercy Hospital with its Champion Award at its annual meeting. This award is presented each year to an organization that has strengthened the foundation of the Portland region through their work as community champions. The Chamber highlighted the work Mercy does providing quality care to patients, our workforce development efforts supporting new Mainers, and making McAuley Residence available to women and families in need. We are honored by this recognition, and we thank all of our amazing staff and partners who make the work possible! In the photo from the event below (from left to right): Charlie Therrien, president of Mercy Hospital; Nicole Witherbee, president and CEO of the John T. Gorman Foundation; Cullen Ryan, executive director of COMMUNITY HOUSING OF MAINE INC; and Melissa Skahan, Mercy's VP of Mission Integration.

It was a beautiful day in Portland to march in the annual Pride Parade. Mercy stands with our LGBTQ patients, staff, and allies in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all. The celebration, colors, and energy in the air were truly inspiring this past weekend. Thank you to all who were able to join us! Prior to attending the parade, Mercy teams collaborated on a new rainbow crosswalk between our outpatient center and the hospital. #PridePortland #pridemonth

Each year, more than 9,000 adults are diagnosed with cancer in Maine, and while survival rates are increasing, a person's journey does not end once they have overcome the disease. The effect of cancer can be lasting, but cancer survivorship programs are helping people live a fulfilling and happy life as cancer survivors. Circe Damon, a nurse practitioner, and Sarah Kelly, social worker, at Northern Light Mercy Cancer Care joined Maine's Total Coverage to talk about the needs and programs.
