🇳🇱🇺🇸We had an incredible culmination of the Chicago Agrifood Scaleup Program 2024 with the roundtable hosted by Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the networking reception at citizenM! These events brought together innovators and leaders passionate about shaping the future of agrifood. 💡The roundtable discussion, moderated by Eric Larson, was enlightening - delving into critical topics surrounding sustainability, innovation, and the global agrifood landscape. It underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing food deserts and supply chain issues, amongst others. 🍫The reception hosted on the beautiful terrace of citizenM hotels in Chicago has not only fostered meaningful connections but has also ignited a spirit of collaboration that will hopefully continue between the Netherlands and the Midwest. Credits for the lively discussions go to Tony's Chocolonely for fueling them. Looking forward to exploring more collaborative opportunities between The Netherlands and the Midwest as we share the drive and excellence in the agriculture and food systems. 🌱💡 Cano-ela | Dutch Lion | GreenAnt | Pacha de Cacao | Skytree | Source.ag | InnovationQuarter | Rotterdam Partners | Netherlands Enterprise Agency

Welcome to Maine🦞To strengthen the economic ties with the Pine Tree State, Consul General Ahmed Dadou visited the cities of Augusta and Portland this week. The Consul General met with State of Maine Governor Janet Mills to discuss current and future economic opportunities, including offshore wind, tech start-ups and aquaculture. During a visit to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute he explored the potential of blue economy and how the Netherlands and Maine could work together on environmental protection and climate change adaptation. Other economic priorities were also part of discussions with the Maine International Trade Center and the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. Thank you to Governor Mills, Glenn Prickett, Blaine Grimes, and Wade Merritt for welcoming the Netherlands and for the delicious lobster rolls! We’re looking forward to next steps. #Netherlands #Maine #EconomicTies

For the latest episode of our Vijf Vragen #podcast, we talk with Annet Monster CTPC and Didi Spelbos from our communications office about how the #EUOpenHouse supports our public diplomacy goals and helps us connect with everyday Americans to teach them about the Netherlands. And one of the first lessons when learning about another culture involves language. So we challenged our guests at the EU Open House to test their knowledge of the Netherlands. And what could be challenging than asking non-Dutch speakers to pronounce “gezellig”? Asking them what it is. We were thrilled to have Gen. Tom Middendorp, former Chief of Defense of the Netherlands, at the embassy yesterday for a talk about his book, “The Climate General,” which takes us on a journey from the frontlines, showing how our changing climate disrupts fragile regions around the world. It reveals how extreme droughts, water scarcity, and natural disasters accelerate conflicts and instability. Middendorp focuses on concrete, actionable solutions, and shows the power of #cooperation and #innovation. #climate #TheClimateGeneral
