About us

Making New Jersey a Better Place for People and Wildlife since 1897. The New Jersey Audubon (NJA) is a privately supported, not-for profit, statewide membership organization. Founded in 1897, and is one of the oldest independent Audubon organizations. The New Jersey Audubon fosters environmental awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey's citizens; protects New Jersey's birds, mammals, other animals, and plants, especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes preservation of New Jersey's valuable natural habitats. In order to achieve its purpose, New Jersey Audubon, through its Board of Directors, professional staff, members, and volunteers, endeavors to: Develop, encourage, and support sound conservation practices, programs, and legislation. Disseminate information on the natural environment through education programs, information services, and publications. Advance knowledge of New Jersey's flora and fauna, and their relationships to the habitats on which they depend, through field research. Acquire, establish, and maintain wildlife sanctuaries and educational centers. New Jersey Audubon maintains stewardship of 34 sanctuaries and conducts its programs through ten staffed facilities. The objectives of the New Jersey Audubon are implemented by its professional staff under the leadership of its Executive Director and supervision of an elected, voluntary Board of Directors. Big shoutout to the Ogilvy team for their amazing work during their day of Service with New Jersey Audubon. During their visit to two sites- Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary and Lorrimer Sanctuary- they rolled up their sleeves. The dedication they showed in helping NJA's conservation efforts was inspiring, from the restoration project in front of Scherman Hoffman to preparing the wildlife habitat garden at Lorrimer for native plants (to be planted in just two weeks!). Thank you, Ogilvy, for making a real impact in nature! To learn more about Day of Service day's and volunteer opportunities please contact [email protected]

Thanks to the amazing volunteers from NYK Group and IPM Inc. who joined us at Scherman Hoffmann Wildlife Sanctuary for a team-building volunteer day! The day began with a warm welcome from Jan Hudson, our center director, followed by a brief training on invasive species. We removed invasive species around the sanctuary and redesigned our bird feeder area as a team. Repurposed rocks from the bird feeder area were used as barriers for future native plantings. After the team completed their projects, we went for a scenic walk around the property, exploring the headwaters of the Passaic River and spotting toads and wood frogs in the frog pond along the way. The team-building day had a significant impact on conservation efforts, and we are grateful for the support. Once again, thank you to our dedicated volunteers for making the difference!
