Two weeks ago, NIPSCO launched its #CharityofChoice campaign, and we’re now more than halfway through our month-long volunteer effort. To date 128 NIPSCO and NiSource employees have contributed 581 hours across 15 events, supporting over a dozen organizations in our service area. From interior renovations and outdoor cleanups at the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana to event operations at The Nature Conservancy in Indiana and home construction at the Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana, our employees have made a meaningful impact across the region. With many more volunteer events scheduled through the campaign, we are working hard to reach a record goal of 1,000 volunteer hours this month. Hear from Orville Cocking, P.E., NIPSCO's Senior Vice President of Electric Operations and Alexius D. Barber, NIPSCO’s Public Affairs & Economic Development Manager as they highlight the importance of this initiative during our kickoff at the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana. NiSource executive leaders Lloyd Yates and Melody Birmingham spoke about economic inclusion and the energy transition last week during a panel discussion at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 53rd Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. The panel, hosted by the American Association of Blacks in Energy, brought together energy industry panelists to discuss how they are considering economic growth, accessibility, social responsibility and environmental stewardship as part of America's energy future.

NiSource team members are passionate about supporting their communities through volunteering, and we celebrate those who go above and beyond. We call them our 'Super Volunteers.' Major Accounts Manager Duke LaMere, based in Indiana, is our latest Super Volunteer. Duke serves as one of NIPSCO's primary points of contact for 100 of the largest gas and electric business customers in Northern Indiana. But his commitment to service extends far beyond his professional responsibilities. Aside from being a member of all of our internal employee resource groups, Duke passionately volunteers with several organizations, including the American Heart Association, Junior Achievement of Chicago, United Way Northwest Indiana and the American Red Cross of Indiana. He also volunteers as a high school football coach. Duke's dedication to service was shaped early in life by his high school coaches who ingrained in him that possessing talents, such as strength, grit and being a good communicator, could be used to give back to the community in many ways. Now that Duke is a wide receiver coach at his old stomping ground, he shares the lessons he was taught with the young adults he coaches, as well as his own children. "Growing up, I was fortunate to have coaches who encouraged us to give back to the community and to be on the lookout for opportunities to serve others," Duke shared. "I try my best to instill this in my kids as well as the young adults I coach, and I lead by example by being the first name on the sign-up sheet when volunteers are needed." For Duke, volunteering offers a unique opportunity to step away from the daily grind and focus on the positive impact he can have on others. Whether participating in the annual Heart Walk with the American Heart Association or engaging with local schoolchildren though Junior Achievement, Duke finds that these experiences recharge him and enhance his well-being. "Focusing on your career and raising a family can obviously give you all you can handle on a day-to-day basis, but I've found that taking advantage of opportunities to be altruistic can serve as a form of therapy in and of itself," he said. "I always seem to come away from volunteering activities with a recharged battery." Duke encourages others to explore volunteer opportunities, emphasizing the positive impact it has. "Take a chance and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone," Duke said. "Spending an hour or two to help others can refresh you and make you that much better at what you do when you plug back into your normal day-to-day life." Thank you for your commitment and dedication to helping your local community, Duke.

Our employee resource group, DAWN (Developing and Advancing Women at NiSource), helps connect and empower women across the organization. Last year, two members of this group, Holli Peters and Michelle Snyder, created the DAWN Experiential Leadership Program, an immersive learning experience designed to grow and develop women leaders in gas and electric operations across NiSource. Holli and Michelle were recognized with a 2024 NiSource Mission Medallion Award for their above-and-beyond work developing this 20-week program. They are inspiring examples, and we are grateful for their dedication to NiSource's team and culture. #womeninenergy #womeninleadership

This September, we kick off our month-long #CharityofChoice campaign, an employee-driven initiative focused on making a lasting impact through volunteerism at local organizations. Last year, our dedicated team members volunteered nearly 800 service hours to approximately 30 organizations across northern Indiana. This year, we’re raising the bar with a goal of contributing 1,000 volunteer hours during the month. We kicked off the campaign last week with two volunteer events. Orville Cocking, P.E., NIPSCO’s Senior Vice President of Electric Operations, led the effort at the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana, where the team worked on cleaning and organizing the facility. Meanwhile, Vincent Parisi, NIPSCO President and COO, spearheaded a project at the Dunes Learning Center, beautifying the rain and pollinator garden at Save the Dunes.
