GOOD NEWS 😉: We can all stop worrying about those people who moved because of a remote-work policy... They are not being forced to move back (for the most part). “Return-to-office” mandates will not cause any major reshuffling of where we live. Why? • Of those who moved due to a remote work policy, the majority stayed pretty local anyway (only 13% left the state). • A lot of these movers are already back in an office at least part-time (50% full-time, 20% hybrid). To date, only 18% of those who moved say that they have been forced to return due to a return-to-office mandate. Follow us for more consumer and home design insights 📈 #nhti #jbrec

Blending old & new / natural & urban. These are some of Anja Seng's favorite images of Ward Village, a master plan in Honolulu, HI that we just featured on DesignLens. Per Anja: Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. did a great job delivering a mixed-use, walkable community that feels vibrant and forward-looking while also staying in touch with nature and the land's historic roots. 14 high-rise condo towers are intermixed among over 8 acres of open space, parks, and plazas. Many of the buildings in the community evoke a modern interpretation of the Hawai‘i regional aesthetic. Note imagery like wavy facades that mimic the ocean. According to Howard Hughes’ 2024 first-quarter earnings report, Ward Village has now reached $6 billion in total sales (including pre-sales). Traditional markets are becoming more modern. Check out how Garman Builders redesigned their townhome at Mayapple Woods for their new Autumn Chase neighborhood. The floor plans are the same, but the exteriors are completely different. Their architects have been eager to more modern, but what gave them the final push? New Home Trends Institute’s research has shown that even heavily traditional regions have a huge opportunity to introduce “soft transitional” designs that stand out. The best part? The homes were able to achieve a refreshed look at a similar price. Dunbar, WELL AP, LEED Fellow of Institute for the Built Environment Len Capozzo of Minto Communities USA #nhti #jbrec #newhometrendssummit

I loved this rolling billboard from Williams Homes in Bozeman! Seems like a great use for an RV with some miles on it (I was told it still runs). It's a nice touch to highlight their Montana Division’s presence throughout the state. You may find this parked at their new West Post neighborhood in Belgrade or at the Northwest Crossing MPC in Bozeman. #jbrec #realestatedevelopment #housing #bozeman

Only 14% of people 55 and older today believe they will live to be 100.* We can do better than that. And learning from the Blue Zones is one way to get there. As most of you have probably seen on Netflix, Blue Zones teach us that lifestyle choices like regular physical activity, strong social connections, and a sense of purpose can make us live significantly longer, healthier lives. Since a massive piece of this puzzle is the community you live in, we asked Tony Buettner to join us at this year's New Home Trends Summit for a keynote session on applying the Blue Zone lessons to home and community design. Join us to get inspired, be challenged, and to realize you're probably not eating enough vegetables (just me?) 2024 New Home Trends Summit: 🏔 Denver, Co 📅 Sept 10-11 🎟 DM to learn more about attending this member-exclusive event. *Stat is from our February 2024 Survey Insight Report "Beyond Stereotypes: A Look at 55 Consumers" #nhti #jbrec #newhometrendssummit

Kids’ bedroom in a retirement community??? #smart I just toured a Toll Brothers home at Regency at Olde Towne, a 55 community outside of Raleigh. We see proximity to grandkids as a primary driver for where retirees move for #housing. Smart move by Toll to show this. #jbrec #realestate John Burns Research and Consulting

Aside from the elusive “stroke of genius”, there are a couple of ways to spur a great idea: • Build upon (or jump off) an existing solution that inspires you • Really dig into consumer pain points The sure way to *NOT* inspire creativity? Focus solely on what your company is doing. This is one of many reasons why we began the New Home Trends Summit: to bring together all the people involved in designing homes and communities and help them incubate their next great ideas. Here is what you can expect this September: • Fresh perspectives. Curated speakers that you might not recognize from the usual circuit. • A full immersion into Denver. Two product tours (master plan and build-to-rent) and speakers from the surrounding area. • Facts (duh). The data-fueled conversations that help everyone make better decisions than gut instinct in a silo. Come hang with us and reignite your creative fire 🔥 DM to learn more about attending. #jbrec #nhti #newhometrendssummit
