Recently, Mapping Moments went on location to St. Louis along the Mississippi River where Lewis and Clark first began their journey into the new western territory gained by the Louisiana Purchase. The United States’ geospatial intelligence effort began in earnest in 1803 when President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the duo to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase and other lands west of the Mississippi River.
