Twenty years ago, NextEra Energy Resources set out with a bold vision in North Dakota—build the state’s first wind farm. Fast forward to today and we now operate 16 wind farms and have invested $3.8 billion into this incredible community! Within the last 20 years, our collaboration with the state has resulted in an annual payroll of $24 million, fueling local economies, supporting education, building infrastructure and creating jobs that allow people to thrive in their home state. This legacy wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated group of community leaders who believed in the transformative power of wind energy. Their curiosity, determination and warm welcome paved the way for amazing growth for renewable energy in North Dakota. The story of North Dakota’s renewable energy footprint is one of collaboration, innovation, community and shared vision. Over the past several weeks I’ve had the opportunity to meet with our ~200 talented summer interns embedded within our business units across the company. Our 2024 intern class is an impressive group, featuring highly engaged undergraduate students, seasoned MBAs from top business schools, and technical students stationed at our wind and solar sites. Conversations have been far-ranging, covering our company’s strategy, career advice, and details about my own career path. I’ve been truly inspired by the curiosity and fresh perspectives they bring to our team. Reflecting on my own journey, a couple of pieces of advice I shared: ✋ raise your hand for the tough assignments ❓ ask a lot of questions 🤝 invest time in building relationships, and 🙌 have fun! Community engagement is essential. Recently, team members from NextEra Energy Resources toured the Shadden Marsh with Ducks Unlimited and learned about conservation efforts in the Clinton Wildlife Area and throughout Kansas. The tour, which was hosted by Ducks Unlimited, also featured informative presentations by the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks. I’m proud to announce that NextEra Energy Resources and INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA, LLC are working together to build a solar energy center in Texas. This joint project will help reduce their carbon footprint, marking a significant milestone for the sector. Last month was an exciting month for NextEra Energy Resources and Northern California! Two new renewable energy projects in Stanislaus County are now delivering clean energy to Sonoma Clean Power and San Francisco Public Utilities Commission customers. For more than 30 years, NextEra Energy Resources has been investing in California’s economy and building strong relationships across the state. And these projects highlight our continued investment in delivering clean, reliable and affordable energy for California customers. In addition to increasing access to clean energy, the Paulsell Energy Center has committed nearly $100,000 to nonprofit organizations, and the Proxima Energy Center is expected to generate millions in additional tax revenue for the community over the next 20 years. Renewables play a core role in meeting the energy demand of today and in the future. NextEra Energy Resources is at a pivotal moment where we are both transforming the country's energy mix while also working to meet the significant new demand. The ability to site and build new projects across the U.S. is going to be essential for our customers to grow their businesses. NextEra Energy Resources, alongside representatives from @INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA, broke ground on the INEOS Hickerson Solar project in Bosque County, Texas last week. The project will have the capacity to generate up to 310 MW of photovoltaic solar energy. Celebrating 20 years of wind energy in North Dakota! Twenty years ago, NextEra Energy Resources arrived in southeastern North Dakota to build the state’s very first wind farm. Since then our focus has always been building strong relationships with the community, and these bonds have stood the test of time. Recently we had the honor of celebrating 20 years in the state with the community leaders who steadfastly supported us from the beginning! The event, which took place in Jamestown, featured our new documentary “Winds of Change: The Wind Sites That Transformed North Dakota” showcasing our engagement with the community and commitment to the state over the past two decades. Today, NextEra Energy Resources operates 16 wind energy centers across North Dakota and our commitment to the state doesn’t stop there. It was a pleasure to chat with Vijay V. Vaitheeswaran at #EconSustainability last week, where we explored the importance of power and the impact it has on the broader economy. During our conversation, we highlighted the significant surge in energy demand across America today and how NextEra Energy Resources is strategically positioned to power this growth. Renewables and storage are set to play a pivotal role in meeting this demand. They offer an unbeatable combination of being clean, cost-effective, and the quickest to deploy. I’m particularly excited about battery storage, as it enables the shifting of renewable generation to the times when it is needed most. Looking ahead, industry estimates suggest we will triple our renewables and storage capacity in the next seven years compared to the past seven—a staggering increase! It’s evident that there’s a profound shift happening in how we collectively think about clean energy. Less than a year ago, these technologies were being deployed predominantly to replace aging or retiring plants. We now have entered a new paradigm for the power sector in which we are both transforming the country's energy mix while also meeting the significant new demand from new manufacturing, industrial activities and growth in the technology sector.
