The CBRN Injury Response Part 3: Medical Management of Radiation Exposure and Nuclear Events Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) provides guidance for the recognition, decontamination, treatment, and triage of suspected or confirmed irradiated and/or contaminated patients who are exposed to radiation.
The CPG is intended for use with the Tactical Combat Casualty Care Guidelines.

High performers are usually terrible at taking compliments. They minimize their accomplishments or deflect the kudos on to their team and act as if they didn't do anything noteworthy at all.
I'm not sure if it's because they are being humble to a fault, or if they are so focused on getting better that they can't see at how good they already are.
Yes, being humble is important. But when taken too far, being unable to take a compliment impedes the feedback process.
If you want to build a high performing team, people need to be able to take feedback, both positive and constructive.
I know they hear the constructive feedback. No one misses that. But if I can't be sure if they know about the good work they do, then we are missing half of the equation.
Being able to take a compliment, but do it with humility, is an important skill that is a necessary part of skill development and relationship building.
Here are four good ways to take a compliment:
➡️ For something you're naturally good at:
✅ "Thank you, I've always enjoyed doing this."
Let's be honest - you're good at something. You know it and everyone else knows it. Your deflections aren't believable. Don't make it weird by denying the obvious. Own it and let's move on.
➡️ For something you've improved at:
✅ "Thank you, I've worked really hard at this lately."
This balances that you know your performance was good, but that you had to work hard to achieve it. There is nothing wrong with admitting your hard work paid off!
You can always add "the great coaching I got really helped."
**You don't have to undervalue your own accomplishments to acknowledge the contributions of others.**
➡️ For a compliment from someone whom you see as a mentor:
✅ "Thank you, that really means a lot coming from you."
This accepts the compliment and acknowledges that a mentor is recognizing your performance. In a way, you are returning a compliment without getting into an awkward "but you do it so much better" routine.
➡️ For when you still want to work on something:
✅ "Thank you. What do you think I should work on next?"
Most people are reluctant to give constructive feedback. The best time to ask for it is right after they dropped a compliment - they know you won't take it as negative criticism. It's the perfect opening.
When someone gives you a compliment - TAKE IT! Don't undervalue their opinion. Put it in your confidence bank, so you have something to draw on when you have to overcome a future difficulty. Because any leader worth their salt will be delivering some constructive feedback as well.

On Thursday, August 8, Dr. Joseph (D) Bozzay will present the findings from his recent article in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
“The military withdrawal from Afghanistan concluded with severe hostilities resulting in numerous civilian and military casualties. The continuum of medical care and the trauma system, from the point of injury back to the United States was captured and described. The clinical care provided by coalition forces capitalized on decades of lessons learned and enabled unprecedented accomplishments.”
There will not be a patient presentation to allow for more information and discussion.

Primary care is really hard.
Really frickin hard.
It baffles me when people say primary care is easy.
Not if done right, in my opinion.
I've been studying medicine for a decade now.
Definitely well over 10,000 hours of knowledge acquisition through textbooks, lectures, podcasts, clinical rotations, residency, and as an attending.
Yet...
I still study every day.
Even as an attending.
I am still learning and acquiring knowledge.
To be a good primary care doc, you need to know/be familiar with (almost) everything in medicine.
If you don't know what you don't know, you could kill someone.
So here's to all the primary care docs that are still out there studying, learning, and most importantly still working as primary care docs. 🍺
...oh yeah, I also am a huge Tom Brady fan 🐐.
