“In cybersecurity you’re never bored! Everything is evolving and changing all the time.” So says Ana-Maria, Nexova Clients Programmes Director, another one of Nexova’s ‘Everyday Heroes’. In advance of International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June, she tells us why cybersecurity is the ideal field to work in. “I’ve been working for the company since 2021 and am now based in our state-of-the-art Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence in Libin, Belgium. Our environmentally-friendly building has a lot of natural light, creating an open and airy atmosphere. And its location is fantastic, being situated in the middle of nature, which is uncommon compared with most business buildings I've visited worldwide. Together, this provides an environment that’s very conducive to day-to-day work and innovation. “It’s difficult to pin down just one thing that I like most about my job. I enjoy working in an international environment, interacting with colleagues from diverse nationalities: our people are from everywhere! This cultural diversity is crucial in the world of cybersecurity and cyber resilience, adding a valuable dimension to our daily work and making it even more interesting. “I appreciate the continuous learning that comes from this cultural aspect. Additionally, I enjoy the variety of projects we undertake and the wide range of hot topics we deal with in cybersecurity. The diversity of technologies and teams we work with adds to the dynamic, engaging nature of my job. “Cybersecurity is constantly changing and is one of the most attractive domains to work in. I don't know anyone who has left cybersecurity. When people want to make a change, they can do so within cybersecurity, even making a total career shift while staying in the same domain. This kind of flexibility and variety is rare. “Having a gender-balanced presence in the cyber industry is something we are aiming at, but in reality it’s not that simple because we are talking about a sector where women were, and still are, under-represented. From a professional perspective, we need more diverse backgrounds, and not just engineers. If we are look at the cyber threats landscape, we have pressing needs to understand motivations, attackers’ mindsets and drive etc. to be able to stay ahead and this needs a set of skills ranging from psychology to languages to cyber diplomacy. “The Women4Cyber Foundation aims to contribute to a gender-inclusive cybersecurity community. I chose to be part of the story as a mentor because I believe we need this kind of inclusion AND because I want to give back to the community to help it grow. We don’t just talk about the technicalities of the domain and what training is useful but also about soft skills, and I believe we make a difference.” https://lnkd.in/e7WdqAbE #INWED24 #enhancedbyengineering

Why is the new European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC) important? Nexova’s Matteo Merialdo believes the ECCC is set to play a vital role in Europe’s security ecosystem, and explains why in a new Science|Business article.   Matteo, who was project manager for the Horizon 2020 project ECHO Cybersecurity (European Network of Cybersecurity Centres and Competence Hub for Innovation and Operations), which laid the groundwork for the ECCC, says that pan-European programmes are necessary to address the EU’s dependence on US cybersecurity products. And for that, he adds, “coordination is essential”.   Read the full article at: https://lnkd.in/erhVbQT9

Positioning, navigation and timing (#PNT) data is key to many services we rely on every day. But is PNT data safe? At Nexova we're looking at the cybersecurity aspects of PNT, which are vital to consider alongside any additonal opportunities PNT offers. At the ESA NAVISP National Positioning, Navigation and Timing Workshop in Brussels on 19 June, one of our experts, Fabrizio Scaglione, will be presenting the results of the NAVISP Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) project, led by Unifly. For this, we provided services leveraging our cybersecurity knowledge, running penetration tests in our radio frequency (#RF) lab on simulated satellite signals to explore the jamming and spoofing of #drone systems and #UTM software. Find out what we discovered in the session at 11:15 CET on 'S-UTM: Secure Unmanned Traffic Management'. #GNSS #positioning #navigation #timing #cybersecurity

A company is nothing without its team, so we’d like to introduce you to some of Nexova’s ‘Everyday Heroes’ – starting with Haim, Nexova’s Vice-President Operations. “I’m based in Transinne, Belgium – a lovely place located in the Ardennes. Our building is both high-tech and highly sustainable in a very natural environment, so a lovely place to work. “I joined Nexova because of the challenge involved in helping set up a new Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence and because of the company culture. It’s very international, yet despite working with people from several countries, it still feels close-knit and everyone is committed to helping our customers with their challenges and services. “I really enjoy the challenges involved in offering technologically advanced and meaningful services while also creating a unified company identity – it’s important to me to ensure that even though we work on different projects, we share the company’s goals, mission and vision as a team. “In previous roles, I’ve often felt constrained to follow a set way of doing things, but at Nexova there is a lot of freedom and trust. We don’t micromanage; we let people bring their own experiences and expertise. This means you are not under constant scrutiny and have the space to approach tasks in the way you see fit, allowing you to bring your own experience and expertise to the forefront.” Discover Nexova: https://www.nexovagroup.eu #everydayhero #everydayheroes
