Loving kids for change

About us

Since 2009, 100% of high school seniors employed by New City Kids have graduated high school, 99% have gone to college, and 90% complete college by age 25 - 10x the national average for low-income youth. Youth from 1st-12th grade are immersed in an academic and artistic environment 5 days a week at our after school centers. Our vision is to walk with a child from age six to age nineteen and be an advocate, family, teacher and mentor to that child. We strive to set these children on a path of life transformation that will carry them forward for the rest of their lives. New City Kids has a national vision with a powerful local impact, currently serving alongside over 500 youth a day in three cities: Jersey City, NJ, Paterson, NJ, and Grand Rapids, MI.

As we enter the fall at New City Kids: Detroit, we are excited to welcome Rich Colón as our new Executive Director! Rich comes to New City Kids with over 14 years of leadership experience, serving in multiple roles and various contexts, giving him a well-rounded ministry experience. With over a decade of experience in pastoral leadership, as a youth pastor working with elementary, middle school and high school students and over 8 years of non - profit organizational leadership experience in various roles overseeing operations, staff, teams and community engagement, Rich joins New City Kids with extensive experience that have given him the tools needed to serve in this role. Rich's passion for youth, outreach efforts in the community, commitment to the well-being and development of his neighborhood (which is in close proximity to NCK Detroit!), and heart to see people of all ages from all places come to Jesus and experience transformation through Him give us confidence and excitement that Rich will be a value-added to New City Kids! We love that Rich and his family live and do life in Southwest Detroit! His smooth transition has been instrumental in maintaining a seamless start to the After School Center year, demonstrating his experience, compassion, and joy to serve our youth.

New City Kids: Grand Rapids had an amazing summer! One great thing that happened was that we welcomed Domineca Montalvo as our new Executive Director in June. Domineca comes to New City Kids with over 18 years of leadership experience in for-profit and nonprofit organizations. For the past eight years, she has focused solely on nonprofit leadership, ministry leadership, and program development, including but not limited to managing her own youth nonprofit. Domineca's progressive experience in business and program operations, management, development, and community engagement, as well as her proven dedication to building and serving, is reflective of her passion and commitment to making impactful change within the community in which she serves. We are excited to welcome Domineca because we know she will be an asset to our mission of "Loving Kids for Change."

This past Saturday, we knocked it out of the park at our Grand Slam event with the New Jersey Jackals. Our youth did an amazing job tossing out the first pitch, singing the national anthem, and 'Showtime,' our drumline, put on a show! We want to thank the #NJJackals for partnering with us to raise support for the youth of Paterson and the city of Paterson for their continued support of New City Kids.
