Today, RWJBarnabas Health experienced an unexpected global Microsoft outage that, if not managed aggressively and effectively, could have caused significant disruption to the health system. While we continue to work through technical issues, normal operations have resumed across the system. The ingenuity and teamwork demonstrated by RWJBarnabas Health’s workforce was exemplary. Led by the system’s Information Technology Department and Office of Emergency Management, their tireless efforts to resolve issues quickly and efficiently were critical in maintaining patient safety during a time of uncertainty. We thank our patients and community members for their patience and support, and commend our employees for their unwavering dedication and commitment. #LetsBeHealthyTogether

Some systems at RWJBarnabas Health have been impacted by the Global Microsoft outage. This is not a cyberattack. Our teams are working to remediate the issue as soon as possible. As always, patient safety is our highest priority. Out of an abundance of caution, we are delaying some scheduled procedures until this situation is resolved and will share updates as they are available. Giving a huge shoutout to everyone who participated in our simulated Infant/pediatric abduction drill at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. On Monday, July 15 at 10:45 AM, we successfully responded to an unannounced, safety drill with precision and lightning-fast response times. We regularly conduct safety drills like this to ensure the safety of our patients and the integrity of our operating systems.

Nyle & his mom came all the way from Belize to see pediatric cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey, part of RWJBarnabas Health Children’s Health network and the only pediatric heart surgery center in New Jersey, thanks to Gift of Life NJ, a charitable organization with a mission to help save the lives of children with congenital heart defects around the world. His story was on CBS News NY #LetsBeHealthyTogether #HeartSurgery #pediatricheartsurgery
Doctors from the Children’s Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey, part of our Children’s Health network and the only pediatric heart surgery center in N.J., recently performed life-saving surgery on a two-year-old patient suffering from a rare congenital heart disease. The surgery included a patch of the pulmonary artery. Nyle Eck, a two-year-old from Belize, was born with a rare congenital heart disease called supravalvular pulmonary stenosis (SVPS), a narrowing of the artery located just above the pulmonary valve, which is the main artery that carries blood to the lungs. Nyle was first diagnosed in September 2022, when he was only three months old. With the help of Gift of Life NJ Inc., a charitable organization with a mission to help save the lives of children with congenital heart defects around the world by providing resources to treat them, he was able to have a cardiac procedure a few months later in Belize, but his condition soon required a second more complex surgery not available in Belize. After a short wait, the Gift of Life NJ Inc. sponsored Nyle to travel to the United States with his mother, Sheena Bernardez. Upon their arrival, Nyle began treatment with the team of pediatric cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at Newark Beth. With the support of the Children’s Heart Center team, Nyle is well on his journey back to health. WCBS | CBS New York shared his story... #LetsBeHealthyTogether #HeartSurgery #pediatricheartsurgery

Proud to share the announcement that RWJBarnabas Health has been awarded a grant from the New Jersey Food Security Initiative (NJFSI) to support a first-of-its-kind program in New Jersey to embed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Navigators in each of its 12 acute care hospitals, including us!
RWJBarnabas Health has been awarded a grant from the New Jersey Food Security Initiative (NJFSI) to support a first-of-its-kind program in New Jersey to embed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Navigators in each of our 12 acute care hospitals. The goal of the program is to improve food security and reduce hunger by enhancing access to food, a healthy diet, and nutrition education for low-income residents. Under the initiative, highly trained navigators in each of our acute care hospitals will work closely with individuals to enroll them in SNAP and connect them with other food access resources, including the appropriate county office in their county. SNAP Navigators will also assist with the recertification process when necessary. Read more about this initiative at https://lnkd.in/eSJ8yehk #LetsBeHealthyTogether #foodsecurity
