The Yankees join the baseball community in mourning the loss of Willie Mays, who was an iconic figure during a Golden Era of baseball in New York City and simply one of the greatest players that the game will ever see. We offer our deepest condolences to the Mays family, the Giants organization and all who knew him.

For Day 2 of #HOPEweek, we're honoring former Yankees minor league athletic trainers Jon Becker and Mike Sole. Last year, after learning that Mike needed a liver transplant, Jon started a GoFundMe page, which raised over $25,000 to cover Mike’s medical expenses and also spread the word that Mike desperately needed to find a living donor. With the site up and running, it dawned on Jon that he should find out if he was a candidate. Months later — after many doctor visits — Jon and Mike successfully underwent the lifesaving joint procedure. This HOPE Week, we’re teaming up with Donate Life America to help save lives. More than 100,000 people nationwide are waiting for an organ transplant. 1 donor can save up to 8 lives through organ donation. Become an organ donor today: registerme.org/hopeweek

Yesterday, we kicked off the 15th Edition of #HOPEWeek by honoring Rehan Staton and his non-profit, The Reciprocity Effect. After graduating from high school, Rehan was a sanitation worker, earning money to support his single-parent household after his dad suffered from a stroke. In 2018, he became the first person in his family to finish college, graduating as the Speaker of the Class for the University of Maryland. In 2019, he became chronically ill, but still pursued his dream of going to law school and took the LSAT. In 2020, Rehan’s reaction video to his Harvard Law School acceptance went viral on social media. In 2023, Rehan graduated from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, Rehan connected with the custodians, dining staff, and security guards, who could relate to his experiences as a sanitation worker. To show his appreciation for these unsung heroes, he co-founded the nonprofit, The Reciprocity Effect, which gives back to support staff. Yankees Players Gerrit Cole, Nick Burdi, Jon Berti, Clarke Schmidt, and Giancarlo Stanton were proud to honor Rehan in a ceremony and luncheon to recognize both him and employees from the waste collection and recycling firm Interstate Waste Services, Inc.
