Last weekend, the NH Electric Co-op lineworker team competed in the tremendous Gaff-n-Go Lineworker's Rodeo in Richmond, Virginia. Keeping the power on takes a lot of work, and this rodeo gave the public a chance to witness the skills, grit and tenacity required to be a lineworker. It also allowed us to further strengthen our bond with other cooperatives, many of whom offer mutual assistance to NHEC during storm restoration – and of course, we do the same for them. We would like to thank our lineworker team: Austin Tallman, George Alex, Nick Tarmey, Will True, Brian Downing, and Matt Varin. We also extend our thanks to our operations supervisors, Jeff Smith and Mike Austin, for serving as judges in the rodeo and to Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and Northern Neck Electric Cooperative for participating in this video.

“The services today are literally lifesaving,” said John Montes, the Regional Disaster Officer for the American Red Cross, referring to Saturday’s free smoke detector home installations in Meredith by NHEC employees who joined with Red Cross volunteers for the fourth year in the “Sound the Alarm” program. The program is included in the Red Cross’ Home Fire Campaign, supported by a $10,000 grant from the NH Electric Co-op Foundation as part of its continuing efforts to engage and give a lift to the communities it serves. Foundation grants to date have helped between 400-500 families in the NHEC service area, according to Montes.

Last month our team of 25 line workers—ranging from apprentice to journeyman—joined forces with JCR Construction Co. from Raymond, NH, our trusted contractor for many years, for transformer training. Huge thanks to MJ Electric for providing the mobile transbanker trailer, which provides a state-of-the-art training lab, allowing trainees to apply classroom knowledge to a safe low-voltage environment.
