Congratulations to Dr. Helena Mazuelas Gallego, Ph.D. and the Serra Lab team for winning first place in the Basic Science Poster Competition at the Global NF Children's Tumor Foundation's conference! Dr. Serra’s lab focuses on the study of #NF1-associated tumors emerging in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The team studies the development, composition, progression and potential therapy and management of these tumors. This is how the needle gets moved! The #NF1 Nerve Sheath Tumor Biomarker Development Symposium brought together creative thinkers and powerful do-ers to identify the most promising liquid, tissue, imaging and digital records markers to inform therapeutics for NF1 tumors. At NTAP, we are working with leaders in the field to synthesize the data and opportunities and will announce new research opportunities soon. The Children's Tumor Foundation is hosting #Neurofibromatosis scientists and clinicians at the 2024 Global #NF Conference in Brussels from June 20 - 25. We are looking forward to a variety of presentations from NTAP’s own sponsored investigators, where data on the advancement of drug development and improved outcomes for patients will be shared. With over 20 projects connected to our efforts, NTAP investigators are leading the #NF1 field and setting the trajectory for conference discussions. We are proud to lead the natural history study of cNFs in #NF1. Our goals are to better understand how skin tumors in people with NF1 progress and identify populations at risk that may benefit from early interventions in order to inform clinical discussions and serve as a historic control for future clinical trials. A natural history study of cutaneous neurofibromas in people with NF1 is currently seeking NF patients under 20 years old and over 40 years old before enrollment closes on August 31, 2024! Participation is easy and important - a participant in the Johns Hopkins Medicine study, Elana Lofspring explains exactly what to expect. Gene therapy focused breakthroughs for #NF1 require collaboration from the best. So grateful for this community of brilliant and powerful thinkers. Onward! Gilbert Family Foundation Children's Tumor Foundation
Coming to you from Baltimore! Today, we're diving into the world of gene therapy for NF with our esteemed partners at the Gilbert Family Foundation and the Neurofibromatosis Therapeutic Acceleration Program (NTAP), graciously hosted at the Johns Hopkins Business School by NTAP. As major funders of NF research and therapies, we strategize together to ensure that donor dollars are invested responsibly and strategically, with the ultimate goal of making a meaningful impact. Kicking off with our NF Ambassador Kevin Martin, a patient's perspective is crucial, as our NF Heroes are at the heart of everything we do. Throughout the day, we'll be engaged in brainstorming and collaboration, unlocking the incredible promise that gene therapy holds for NF. This event comes on the eve of the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASCGT) meeting, and we'll be reporting from there this week. Join us as we explore opportunities and tackle challenges together on the forefront of NF research and therapy. #EndNF #MakeNFResearchVisible #MakeNFVisible #GeneTherapy

We were happy to organize and host The Symposium on Atypical Neurofibroma State of the Science as a collaboration between the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and NTAP Research. Two people living with NF1 and 56 scientists and clinicians from 27 institutions in the USA and Europe participated in a think tank to review current data and major priorities for pre-malignant #neurofibromas. The outcomes were the first steps toward an updated diagnostic paradigm that includes histopathology, clinical features, imaging and genomics. New recommendations were also established regarding diagnosis, monitoring and management options. The goal is to never let another #MPNST / sarcoma happen. Audacious, but with this team, maybe just achievable. #NF1Therapies #NF1 #Neuroscience #NFAwareness #Neurofibromatosis
