NetHope applauds USAID for their announcement of their new Digital Policy and we were proud to have our Members and Partners participate in the consultation. Digital technologies and transformation are poised to become the most powerful force for bridging global gaps in health outcomes, livelihoods, the environment, education, equity & inclusion, and other aspects of civil society over the next several decades. While digital solutions alone cannot solve global challenges, there is clear agreement that data, digital technologies, and digital transformation are critical enabling factors. For more than 20 years, the NetHope Community has been an accelerator for digital transformation. Together, we leverage deep digital expertise, meaningful partnerships, the power of collective action, and the smart use of established and emerging technologies to transform our world for good. Research from the NetHope Center for the Digital Nonprofit shows that every 5% increase in the effectiveness of the NGO sector translates into $2 billion of enhanced annual global impact. At the heart of this is effective digital transformation to meet modern and emerging needs that enables the people who power NGOs to work in new and better ways made possible by technology. Today, nonprofits - and the people, places, and planet they serve - are grappling with new #digital challenges that threaten mission advancement and slow global progress on the SDGs. That's why NetHope's 2024-2030 Strategic Plan focuses on Bridging these New Digital Divides - new digital challenges & critical gaps in infrastructure, capabilities, and knowledge that threaten nonprofit mission advancement as organizations are forced to grapple with the widening gap between available resources and growing needs. Through our new strategy, NetHope is leading collective action to bridge the New Digital Divides – #digitalskills and #digitalleadership, #digitalinclusion, #digitalprotection, #digitaltransformation and #innovation, and #digital for #climateadaptation and #resilience - to advance global good. And so, we celebrate the vision of USAID's Digital Policy to work towards a future where digital technology promotes inclusive growth, fosters resilient societies, advances human rights, and empowers all, including the most vulnerable.
Did you know that approximately 2.6 billion people remain unconnected to the internet, nearly all of which are in the least developed countries? To close this digital divide and build a future that benefits all, USAID has launched a new Digital Policy. The Digital Policy will prepare USAID and our partners around the world to adapt to rapid changes, adopt digital technologies responsibly, uphold democratic values, bolster information integrity and resilience, engage in strategic competition to counter authoritarianism, and decisively accelerate development progress and humanitarian response using digital technologies. Last week, the NetHope North America Chapter Meeting convened in Winnipeg, Canada, featuring dynamic discussions among senior digital leaders in our sector. Key topics included the pivotal role of IT in advancing localization efforts, strategies for making AI-powered solutions accessible to local organizations, cybersecurity protocols, and disaster recovery planning strategies. The agenda featured presentations by delegates on their organizations’ current priorities, achievements, and challenges, alongside insights from Microsoft. Participants also explored future opportunities for collaboration within NetHope. We extend our gratitude to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) for graciously hosting the meeting, which brought together nonprofit IT and digital leaders from across North America. While the meeting has concluded, ongoing dialogue and collaborations continue through publicly accessible webinars. These sessions provide Members, partners, and experts a platform to share case studies, best practices, and the impact of digital transformation.
