NCNW President and CEO Shavon Arline-Bradley released the following statement upon learning about the death of Texas Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee: “I am saddened by the news of the death of Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. The nation has lost one of our fierce champions of civil rights yesterday, as she was a stalwart advocate for Black women and our rights. A life member of NCNW, she was never silent in the face of injustice. That is why without hesitation we were honored to stand with her in support of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act that she sponsored as a senior member of the House Committee on the Judiciary and ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. We pledge continued support toward the passage of this bill. Her legacy and zeal for civil rights will forever be enshrined in the halls of justice. On behalf of her NCNW Sisters and affiliate organization members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Links, Incorporated, God bless her family, friends, and constituents during this time of grief. Our prayers are with you and for your continued strength.”

It was an honor to join our affiliate, The Links, Incorporated, yesterday during their 44th National Assembly in Dallas to celebrate Juneteenth and receive The Link Medal! Dr. A. Lois Keith, National Chair, and Shavon Arline-Bradley, President & CEO, accepted the distinguished award given to organizations that have a legacy of challenging inequities while making a positive impact in the lives of African Americans. Being able to celebrate this Juneteenth with Dr. Opal Lee, “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” made the evening even more memorable. Thank you, to The Links, Inc.!
