👏🌱Positive news from the BBC who are committing to both #NetZero and #NaturePositive. 🌱👏 They join many others in the process of making #ScienceBasedTargets for Nature through the Science Based Targets Network, and aligning to the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework to assess, report and act on their impact on our environment. An announcement last week revealed that the BBC's Net Zero targets have been verified by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), but the BBC plans to also reduce their environmental impact and work towards nature-positive outcomes. According to their sustainability strategy, they are investigating methodologies to calculate our biodiversity footprint in order to measure our biodiversity net gain performance alongside commitments to reduce emissions and educate and inspire on climate and nature. 🟢 Read the update: https://lnkd.in/enT9zUQB 🟢 Find out more about the global nature positive goal: https://lnkd.in/e3My8m-Y

Nature is in crisis, placing human and planetary health at risk. Together we can secure a nature-positive world by 2030.
About us
We need more nature at the end of the decade, not less! ‘Nature positive’ is a global goal defined as ‘halt and reverse nature loss by 2030 on a 2020 baseline, and achieve full recovery by 2050’. Put simply, it means ensuring more nature in the world in 2030 than in 2020 and continued recovery after that. The Nature Positive Initiative (NPI) is a coalition of conservation organizations, standard-setting organizations, institutes, and business and finance coalitions which have come together to drive alignment around use of the term ‘nature positive’ and support broader, longer-term efforts to deliver nature-positive outcomes. Core work includes preserving the integrity of ‘nature positive’ as a measurable 2030 global goal for nature for business, government, and other stakeholders, and providing the tools and guidance necessary to allow all to contribute. The initiative also advocates for the full implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by governments and other stakeholders. The NPI coordinates a diverse Nature Positive Forum, which is open for all relevant institutions and organizations to join and support and implement the Nature Positive global goal for nature.

The 5️⃣ high-level recommendations and 2️⃣0️⃣ detailed policy asks for governments from the Business for Nature coalition come at an opportune moment in the run up to #COP16 in Colombia this October. The policy recommendations call on governments to urgently adopt policies to accelerate the action needed on #Nature: 🌎 Make sure business and finance protect and restore nature 🌎 Ensure natural resources are used and managed sustainably to reduce negative environmental impacts 🌎 Value and embed nature in decision-making and disclosure 🌎 Align all financial flows to a transition to a nature-positive, net-zero and equitable economy 🌎 Adopt/strengthen ambitious global agreements to address key nature loss challenges Businesses and financial institutions are uniting and calling on governments to provide the regulatory certainty they need to transform their operations and supply chains 🌱 The world has an opportunity to build a thriving, #NaturePositive, #NetZero and equitable economy. Businesses cannot address the challenge of nature and biodiversity loss alone and voluntary business action is not enough. The Nature Positive Initiative stands behind all action to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. We support the appeal to governments for immediate leadership to strengthen policies, incentives and legislation that will drive the necessary business action to halt and reverse #NatureLoss this decade. 🔗 Read the policy recommendations: https://lnkd.in/e7ZP58hD #NaturePositive

“Similar to the carbon-neutral transition, it is urgent that we also embrace the nature-positive goal so as to build a sustainable future for all." Read Marco Lambertini’s contributions to the China Daily on working towards a #NaturePositive and #Netzero future 🌏🌿
🍃🌊 "Natural #ecosystems store immense amounts of #carbon and every year, about half of human carbon dioxide emissions are neutralized by forests, #wetlands and marine habitats...Similar to the #carbonneutral transition, it is urgent that we also embrace the #naturepositive goal so as to build a #sustainable future for all." 👉 Read Nature Positive Initiative convener Marco Lambertini and Umweltbundesamt - German Environment Agency President Dirk Messner, both #CCICED Council Members, in China Daily on the importance of China-EU cooperation to tackle urgent #climate and #environment challenges. https://lnkd.in/dnYbSxY2

🌿Now over 400 adopters of the TNFD recommendations!🌿 This is vital work from companies and financial institutions around the world who are stepping up to properly value their impacts and dependencies on nature. A nature-positive world will benefit all people, and provide new business opportunities. The Global Nature Positive Summit in Australia is only four months away, with UN Biodiversity's #COP16 in Colombia, hot on its heels. All countries are expected to share their plans to reverse nature loss. Their ambition for a nature-positive world by 2030 must match the scale of ambition set adopted by the world with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Great to see this pre-summit event taking place this month 🌱 🌏 #NaturePositive #BiodiversityPlan #PartOfThePlan Australian Climate and Biodiversity Foundation Australian Conservation Foundation WWF-Australia
It was great opening session at the Australian Leaders’ Nature Positive Pre-Summit in Sydney - co hosted by ACBF, ACF and WWF. The Australian Minister for the Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek talked about Nature Positive action in Australia and that “unless we change the systems and setting we will continue to head in the wrong direction” We were joined by Marco Lambertini from Global Nature Positive Initiative - speaking from Geneve - on not only the imperative for a N world but also the importance of a global definition, 2020 baseline and measurement. Dr Ken Henry - ex treasury secretary for the Australia government facilitated a deep discussion about the need to change the economics system. “The current economic model does not work for nature” is a powerful statement by an economist who is driven to reform an outdated model that got it wrong. It is encouraging to see so many business leaders in the 70 leaders in the room who see not only the need for nature positive but see it as a economic opportunity to change the way business delivers profit and purpose. The Global Nature Postive Summit is around 4 months away. On the 8-9th Oct, more than 1000 global and local leaders will come together around accelerating Nature Postive action in the run up to COP16 in Cali, Colombia. The work starts now to ensure it lifts ambition on what is the issue of our time …our planet. WWF-Australia Judy Slatyer Lyndon Schneiders Kelly O'Shanassy
